Although Draconus is far from the perfect game--in many ways it is not even a terribly good game--it manages to accomplish something that no other game in this genre does: taking out every frustrating aspect of similiar 3rd person adventure games and turning it entirely into a fast-paced Conan simulator. Really, they might as well have called the game Conan as you 'teleport' to many different villiages, cities, castles, etc. and kill everybody and everything that gets in your path. Never are the problems any more challenging than the average doom level. No need to worry about box puzzles or difficult 3d platform jumping. Draconus is all about being ravager of many lands (for good ends of course.) Even if you play the female character who is a little less Conan like, you'll still be doing the same sort of thing, only weighing your game play more on spells which are no less devistating than the might of the fighter character.

Essentially what I am trying to get at, is that while Draconus does impliment some fighting techniques that do make the game more than just brainless button pounding, the game itself is big brainless red-meat fun--enough so to keep you coming back for more even after you've played it through. For those of you who want brainier games, there are plenty out there, but ask yourself, what would Conan do?

What this 'fun factor' comes at the expense of though is a somewhat less than stellar graphical environment, occasionally frustrating camera angles and levels that are often very similiar and every once in a while too much like doom. It is also unfortunate that there is no end-of-game save or an option to return your incredibly powerful character back to level one and wreaking havoc like its never been wreaked before. As it is, when you get to the last level, you basically say good-bye to your character--and while the last levels are fun, they don't allow quite the zanniness that proceeding levels do where you can just unleash giant combos on dwarves and goblins.

That all said, the fun still definitely wins out--I found myself playing this game for three hour stretches due to its highly addictive nature. If you are excited about conquering other people all over the world or just feeling mighty for good stretches, this is definitely the game for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good game..., May 27, 2001

Draconus is an all around great game. In truth, this game supplies the average gamer with both slash and hash fighting including combo's and quick battles, as well as a bit of strategy and plotline. The graphics are nice, and the controls are extremely user friendly. Compared to something like Soul Fighter and Shadow Man, this game exceeds them both, by far.

This game is incredibly addicting. The fighting system allows you to actually fight with some strategy.. This is NOT a button-slapper.. That tactic will get you slain quickly.. One thing I really like is that fighting some enemies makes you really feel like you've accomplished something..

I would actually give it a 4.5 .. It's a little too easy to step off the edge of something due to the animation (hard to tell where you are pointed sometimes) and there are some polygon lines visible.. but it's more fun than any other DC game I have so far (~30)..

3.0 out of 5 stars Draconus Decent game, November 4, 2011
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Draconus: Cult of the Wyrm (Video Game)
This is a adventure game slash hack and slash game. However its not of the mindless run through and hack your way type of game. You have to use defense the enemy cleverly blocks and moves out your way. Minions call other minions they often attack in groups of 3 surrounding you from sides. The story is typical of these games but is told well and just intriguing enough to keep you coming back. I believe George Takei(Sulu from Star Trek) narrates this as well making it even better. Voice acting is generally pretty decent and at times a little funny sometimes i think unintentionally so. Ok the levels are fairly expansive and there is a fetch this or get that key. Usually this isnt very hard like in some other games and mission are multi-tiered for most part. The game is pretty linear as well. These can get a little annoying for people who generally dont play this genre of games. I have little experience in this genre so I am using a walkthrough i believe those who play these type of games probably shouldnt need one. This game was programmed by a then upstart Treyarch and you can tell as well. Graphics are a mix bag in one case you have excellent environments very detailed and characters are detailed as well. Then on the other hand you have a few problems. Clipping, polygon seams can be seen everywhere and a sometimes funky camera as well. The polygon seams are sloppy and Crave (the publisher should of probably had Treyarch fix this). Here is another thing it seems like one team programmed the outside environments(where you will see clipping and polygon seams everywhere). Then when you inside caves, castles and the sort the environment is almost perfect. There is some nice graphical touches in this game. Sound the game has good sound effects. Insects buzzing, Goblins making goblin noise and other minion noises. The game music score is decent as well, it generally wont play music unless you are heading into a fight or another important area of the game. However the game isnt silent for too long as you usually hear other noises in the background as well. This game kind of slipped under the radar when it came out i think the name of the game probably had something to do with it. Also if they would of polished up the game a little more it would of been better. This is essentially part 2 or a remake of a PC game called die by sword also by Treyarch. Final conclusion good but not great game perhaps with a little more graphical polishing would of been a pretty decent game.

the game itself is great. the disc was sent with a major crack in the center of the disc, which has caused some problems, but it still plays alright 95% of the time.

This 'game' is simply for 'anyone' who enjoys action/adventure movies with humor. Movies staring Arnold as "Connan the Desroyer". "In other words- 'I came, I saw and I kicked some butt'. I loved it; 'Hack&Slash' at its best! The voice overs were some of the witties and funniest. "MUST-BUY".
