This is a great book, containing the first two parts of The Draegan Lords series - True of Heart and Lords of Kellesborne. It not only has a beautiful setting in the fantasy world of Velensperia, but the author too has a fantastic way of describing her characters to the very core, thus making them very belivable.

Gaige Rizik is captain of the despotical high sorcerer of Velensperia's life guard. He is ordered to infiltrate the draegan rebels' camp and kill their leader Keiran Hareldson. The longer, however, Gaige stays in the camp of the draegans, the more torn he becomes over his mission and the deeper become his feelings for their leader. But choosing to fight for his love means opposing the high sorcerer and that comes at a very high cost...

The story develops in a very nice way, alternating between slow, tender scenes and fast action scenes. At the very end of the book there is a sudden turn of events which a little bit ripped me from the flow of the storyline. It seemed a little bit constructed in order to build a bride to the next book in the series "Fires of Ballian". But it sure made me anxious to read the sequel.

M.L. Rhodes in this series created the world Velensperia in a very detailed and colorful way. It has a lot of references to "The Lord of the Rings", which in my opinion makes it even more likable. Who wouldn't like M/M romance set in the world of Lord of the Rings? ;-)
Byram reminds of Saruman, Death is a combination of the Balrog and Sauron, Kellesborne reminds of Helms Deep and even my favorite line from the first movie is used in part: "Things that were, things that are and some things that have not yet come to pass." (Cate Blanchett as Lady Galadriel).

Altogether definitely a must read.

Gaige is the Chief Captain of the Guard of the High Sorcerer. He is known as the White Panter, both for his hair colour, white blond, then for the glacial behaviour he has on duty.

And now he is on mission to find and kill the leader of the draegan rebels, a group of dragon shapeshifters. All the draegan were slaughtered by the Sorcerer and his men, and few of them survive.

Keiran, their leader, his young and idealist, and from the very first time he has the chance to be with Gaige he understands that his feeling for Gaige is not only desire, but a primal need... like those he could feel for a soul mate.

Both Gaige and Keiran are strong characters, but Gaige is more tormented, he keeps too many secrets inside, and can't love openly. Instead Keiran, even when discovers the defeat of Gaige, can't stop to love him. And put him in front of his people.

A very enjoyable reading, with the right dose of love and adventure. And I have the feeling that M.L. Rhodes plans to write more of these two...

I have read this book in ebook format many times and finally decided to get it for the book shelf.
ML Rhodes writes great romance, hot steamy sex and I love this book.
Can't wait for part three
