Book Description

This process-oriented text—supplemented by 280 illustrations—is structured to provide students with a proper and practical approach to the development of drafting and related skills for the theatre.

Dennis Dorn and Mark Shanda emphasize the standard drafting and designing practices of the theatre industry through a series of projects and exercises that help the student in the development of research skills. The early sessions focus on the basics of lettering, tool introduction, geometric constructions, orthographic techniques, soft-line sketching applications, and dimensioning and notation skills. The authors also stress such ancillary skills as time and material estimation, shop-drawing nomenclature, and simplified drafting techniques such as pin graphics, theatre-drafting standards, and CADD processes.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Learning Guide, March 31, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Drafting for the Theatre (Paperback)
This book fills in all the details missing from the basic theatrical drafting course, focusing on hand drafting, not CAD systems. Great for scene and lighting techs, but uses many of the same techniques as architectural drawing. Includes worksheets to practice on and explains everything clearly and with humor. Buy it!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Resource, January 27, 2000
This review is from: Drafting for the Theatre (Paperback)
This is a fine text for anyone needing help with establishing assignments for a drafting course (for scene designers). Other than a few typographical errors, this is a great book. I wish it would be revised and updated.

3.0 out of 5 stars It could be better, November 13, 2001
By
Lindsay (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Drafting for the Theatre (Paperback)
This book does offer a lot of basics when it comes to theatrical drafting, but there are quite a few mistakes both within the text and in the worksheets given. It would be much better if updated.
