About the Author

Ike Heckler Jr., Team Owner of IH Racing and driver of the Nostalgia Super Stock 1967 Pontiac LeMans featured in the book, has drag raced for the past 10 years and has had over 50 round wins at various tracks across the national NHRA drag racing circuit. During the past 5 years, Ike has secured corporate sponsorships from such companies as CARQUEST Auto Parts, Remax Realty, VP Racing Fuels, Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts, Lucas Oil, Giant Recreation World, and Hunyady Auction Company. Ike and his '67 LeMans have gained national recognition from articles in National Dragster, Fastest Street Car, and High Performance Pontiac magazines, and in various episodes on SPEED channel's PINKS All Out ! and PINKS All Outtakes ! Each year with sponsor support, Ike races a full race schedule across the country and each of these events has very high visibility for IH Racing's sponsors. In 2008, IH Racing attended the PINKS All Out ! events at Gainesville Raceway in Florida, and Atlanta Dragway in Georgia. Coverage from these events ranged from on track viewership of over 50,000 race fans to national television coverage to about 6 million households. As you read this book, Ike takes you on a visual journey showing how he started out in 1985 with the same '67 LeMans you see on the cover and how the project has progressed over the years to become the successful racing operation it is today.

More About the Author

Ike Heckler Jr., Team Owner of IH Racing and driver of the Nostalgia Super Stock 1967 Pontiac LeMans featured on the cover, has drag raced for the past 10 years and has had over 50 round wins at various tracks across the national NHRA drag racing circuit.

Each year with sponsor support, Ike races at about 15 events across the country and each of these events has very high visibility for IH Racing's sponsors. In 2008, IH Racing attended the PINKS All Out ! events at Gainesville Raceway in Florida, and Atlanta Dragway in Georgia. Coverage from these events ranged from on track viewership of over 50,000 race fans to national television coverage to about 6 million households.

The '67 Pontiac LeMans has also been featured in NHRA's National Dragster's What's New section and in various issues of NMCA's Fastest Street Car magazine. In 2008 High Performance Pontiac magazine did a feature on the race car when IH Racing was invited to attend a very special "Pavement Pounders Shootout" at Virginia Motorsports Park. Ike has also received local Florida press coverage from Hometown News and Florida Today

Besides running a full race season each year, Ike also owns and manages a land development company who is IH Racing's primary sponsor. Together with all the other major associate and associate sponsors, this allows Ike to attract the magazine and television coverage that increases future sponsorship funding.

As you read this book, Ike takes you on a visual journey showing how he started out in 1985 with the same '67 LeMans you see on the cover and how the project has progressed over the years to become the successful racing operation it is today.

By reading this book, you won't become an expert at winning drag races (that comes with much practice), but you will learn all about the sport and most importantly how to secure sponsors so you can begin your very exciting and lucrative drag racing career!

If you have never herd of or been to a drag race this book is for you. Yes I takes you from when he first bought his car up to his present day situation. However the way he does it is to simplistic. One example is the finding of sponsors. Ike states that if you go get sponsors they will pay for your motor or graphics or maybe give you discounts on items you purchase from them. That's it! He doesn't go into detail about how to dress, handle your self, network to find sponsors, how to make a portfolio of your car and race track accomplishments. If it were that easy we would all have big name sponsors. Not worth the [...] bucks

Ike Heckler tells it like it is. That grassroots racing is a great event, but an expensive one! Anyone looking into drag racing seriously needs to read this book!

I always wanted to drag race ever since I went to US 30 Drag strip in Indiana when I was a very young. This book helped me step by step and was right on for my drag racing experience. It took all the mystery out of drag racing. Great for the beginner. If drag racing is something you always wanted to try this is the book that will tell you just like it is and will help you understand what to expect when you get to the track. I enjoyed this book very much and it has enhanced the very pleasurable time I had at route 66 drag way. It is just as titled Drag Racing 101.

While he does cover the basics as far as racing is concerned, some of his tips are still good reminders for even veteran drivers. The main focus is on how to put together a sponsorship proposal and schedule, and even though I have raced everything from dirt cars to drags and in between, I learned alot from this book. I'm confident anyone can get something good from this book and it's sequel, if only some inspiration for the upcoming season!
