I wanted to read the book not short stories.

Simon always delivers a disturbing ride into his twisted mind with his short stories. I was only going to read one each night! However I was wrong, each story threw me into the next one. I could not get enough. I grew up with Alfred's scary short stories and Simon delivers the same shock factor.
Dragged into Darkness is a must read. Check to see how many locks are on your door before you open the book!!!

Dragged into the Darkness by Simon Wood

What can I say about the talented, prolific author, Simon Wood that has not already been said?
One thing I can say: Simon didn't have to drag me into the darkness --I went with him willingly through each tale.

I swore off scary writing some time ago and then I discovered Simon Wood and was hooked again. The sheer thrill of his writing is enough to send chills down you spine and love every minute of it! Short story writing is a craft few master and when you can pack as much as Simon does into each page...you know you're reading one of the very best.
Even though I've still got my lights on...I'm compelled to ask: When's the next collection coming out, Simon?

Simon Wood's "Dragged into Darkness" is spectacular collection of short horror stories that captivate the reader -ala- Stephen King's "Nightmare's and Dreamscapes".

Here are some of my favorites from "Dragged into Darkness"

"The Sunseeker" - It is story of a man who is attacked and bitten by a vampire and how he would like to see just one more sunrise.

"The Ladies Room" - This one really freaked me out. Put it this way if you are a janitor. You may never want to clean the ladies room again.

"The Hoarder" - It may be the worst case yet. A woman struggles with letting things go after her young child dies. Even HER doctor is having trouble.

"Shadow Chaser" - This story is like Stephen King's "The Dark Half" on steroids.

"Thursday" - This may sound weird but if you took and combined the movie "Big" with Tom Hanks and "I Know What You Did Last Summer" you would have "Thursday"

"Faith" - In this story, it takes one pilot great faith to keep his 747 in the air.

There are five other great stories along with these so I encourage anyone who likes to be kept up at night from the great story that you just read. CHECK IT OUT...

For other reviewers that said "the description was misleading" - it said "These eleven tales offer a morbid sampling of the many forms and fashions of terror -from the subtle prickling of neck hairs at the kiss of a ghostly breeze to the raw - throated screams and feverish clawing of a desperate fight for survival."

Catch the many forms and fashions. These are horror stories folks. If you don't want to read a short story about a vampire in a collection of short stories don't by a collection of short horror stories.

For anyone who does not like horror stories. I will encourage you to check out one of Simon Wood's thrillers "Paying the Piper" It is a page turner as well. You may like it. (not near as dark)

Every short story was as captivating as the last. A really good read if you like thrillers I would recommend reading this series of short stories. If you have an addiction to thrillers this can be your short fix everyday!

To be honest, I snatched this book up on sale when I saw it on a mystery book site, thinking it would be a mystery or thriller. So my first read by this author (who does indeed write thrillers/mysteries) is actually a horror short-story book--and it's extremely well done. I was completely captivated from the first story and ended up reading the whole thing in two sittings (would have been one if I'd remembered to keep the Kindle plugged in).
It's both a tough and a delightful read. The writing is terrific while the storylines are disturbing; the stories themselves are thoroughly entertaining. It's not easy to ask a reader to switch gears a dozen times to a completely different set of characters, but each of the 12 stories really worked for me. Best of all, each tale started off so reasonably and normally that it was easy for the author to convince me, as odd or seemingly impossible things occurred, that they were happening naturally as part of an evolving story. I don't think that's very easy to do--it's like my skepticism was removed even before it began.
I love a book that takes me places and this one fits the bill. From the creepiness of The Shower Curtain and Faith to the incredible storyline in Acceptable Losses and The Hoarder, I loved each story and wasn't disappointed at all that I accidentally bought the wrong genre. If you like horror, or like short stories, or just like really good, complete writing with engaging characters, this book is for you. I highly recommend it.
