Who decided it would be a good idea to replace the classic "Dragnet" theme music with some horrible piano riff? This comes close to ruining this DVD for me. But thankfully Jack Webb and co. cannot be stopped by stupid video company that messes with classic TV shows. DO NOT BUY THIS DVD

Do not buy any digiview products...
I bought 4 DVDs from them, and they all have the same sound problem. The sound is jumping and it makes them impossible to watch... Very dissapointing

What more can I say--He's the best.If it wasn't for him, there would be no cop movies right now. He started it all. Cops--Law & Order, CSI, NCIS-Third Watch etc. Thank You Jack Webb

You have to watch these episodes with some historical perspective in mind,

To the modern television viewer, the three episodes on this tape will appear amateurish, so they must be viewed with a great deal of historical perspective. Technical limitations of the times required that certain modifications had to be made. That is no more evident than in the scenes where Sergeant Friday and his partner are in their squad car. They are squeezed together hip to hip and there is no rear-view mirror to clog the scene.
The action is a bit stiff and the music is the same few notes repeated whenever there is a revelatory scene. After you have heard it many times it grows a bit annoying and it is not the signature theme of the later episodes. Yet, you have to realize that these episodes were made in the 1950's, a time when television was a completely new medium and the producers were still learning how to do it right. There are no fight scenes and no officer or criminal draws his gun, the action is all in the deadpan style so characteristic of the "Dragnet" series. If you understand the early history of television and can appreciate the early history of the medium then you can watch these episodes with interest. However, if you want your police dramas to be filled with action, then you will most likely find them dull. |
