He is also known for his design work on video games such as Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger, Tobal No. 1, and most recently, Blue Dragon. His recent manga works include COWA!, Kajika, Sand Land, Neko Majin, and a children's book, Toccio the Angel. He lives with his family in Japan.

This re-re-release is a horrible product and should be skipped. Even though this book uses the cover of the first kanzenban (or "perfect edition") cover of the manga, it is a much more shabby product. The back of the book claims to be uncut and remastered. Neither of which are true. The pages are printed on highly thin, low quality paper, almost like toilet paper. You can see right through the pages. The uncut claim is false; a few pages are indeed edited. The color pages are no longer in color, just plain ol' black-and-white. You're better off buying the VIZBig editions of the manga. Even though they have their flaws, (missing color pages, still censored), they do have most of the color pages and are a higher quality paper (and around the same price too!) So, skip this release, go for the VIZBigs or just wait it out until VIZ actually releases a proper version.

Despite being advertised as unedited, it does contain some scenes that slipped in the first edition with some censorship. Viz says that second edition will truly be uncensored. This is the first Dragonball manga I purchased and I find it OK. I wish the paper were a little thicker (it's almost like newspaper, maybe thinner) but it gets the job done. It's sharp and legible...that's what really matters to me.

Let me just start this off by saying this is Dragon Ball in manga form...it will be enjoyable no matter the smaller details, which is what I will get into in this review. If all you are looking for is the ability to read the manga, then this will do you just fine. There is an older version of the manga called the Vizbig edition, which also combines 3 volumes to one book, and is higher quality (higher quality paper, slightly larger artwork, some color pages, sturdier binding) but if the quality isn't a big issue, either version will do you justice. Now, onto the actual review.

This release of the Dragonball manga was advertised as being uncensored, however, the book is still censored. Viz issued a statement saying that the book was actually intended to be uncensored, but was printed incorrectly on accident. I'm not sure if that is true or not, since the last time I was at a book store, the copy I saw was censored. Once this issue is resolved, i'll edit my review accordingly. Until then, i'll discuss everything else.

I mentioned a vizbig edition earlier. That release was printed on high quality paper, was slightly bigger, and included some full-color pages. Everything about it felt like quality. This version has thinner paper, is smaller, has no color pages, but is cheaper and has less censorship (though, like I mentioned earlier, some parts of the book are still censored.) Unless you really can't afford the extra $2 or so for the Vizbig, there is no reason to get this book over that one. Now, if what Viz says is actually true, and this really was a misprint, and they end up printing another version of Dragonball that is completely uncensored, then that would be another story.

The first three volumes of Dragon Ball. I grew up on Dragon Ball Z, like a lot of kids, and I saw some episodes of Dragon Ball. Dragon Ball is a lot sillier than DBZ, it doesn't take itself too seriously and the combat is less intense. The 3-in-1 as it stands is good, but slightly less durable than normal manga since the pages are thinner.

My only mentionable dislike is the difference in translation when compared to the show. It's still a good translation, but some of the phrases and names that changed mess with me like "Fire Mountain" vs "Fry Pan mountain". It also takes getting used to the traditional names of Goku's "power pole" and "flying nimbus".

If you like Dragon Ball though and you want to save a little cash then this is still a good deal, collector and fan alike.
