Bardock Special, Awesome Storyline,
By Kimberley Gibson (Ottawa, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dragon Ball Z - Bardock the Father of Goku - (UNCUT) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Bardock... Yay! Dubbing.... Aaaaah! The story of this movie is absolutely awesome, detailing the events before the destruction of Planet Vegeta, and hinting at events to come. Bardock, the true father of Goku (Kakkarotto) is an amazing character and even more so towards the end of the movie when he goes up against Freeza and all of his minions. THough, I have several problems with the script and voice acting. It really bothered me that the names of Bardock's crew/friends were different from the Japanese version. Celipa became "Fasha", Toma became "Tora", and I don't remember what Funimation changed Panboukin and Totepo to. The voice acting, for one, they could have had better voice actors for some of the characters. I didn't have a problem with The VAs for Bardock, Toma, and Panboukin, but Celipa (Fasha) sounded like she was on helium, and Totepo sounded like he was trying to be stupid. Fortunately, the voice actor of Freeza remained true to the TV show (point for FUNi). I just wish that they could have at least done the same for Dodoria and Zarbon. Though, Zarbon didn't sound too bad. And now for the music. Though, I'm not a big fan of heavy metal alternative type music, the electic guitar riffs went well with the basic concept of the movie and certain scenes. Though, the guitar was a little too harsh during certain scenes. That aside, the story was excellent from the point where Bardock has psychic abilities violently "bestowed" upon him by the Kanasei to the rather nostalgic conclusion when Kakkarotto lands on Earth(Eee-arth according to the movie LOL). Uncut versions are always better than the cut versions. OVerall, it's a good buy and a must have for any Dragonball Z fan.

Bardock, the Father of Goku,

This review is from: Dragon Ball Z - Bardock the Father of Goku - (UNCUT) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This short movie tells the story of Goku's father, and how Goku got on Earth. Bardock and his crew are low-class fighters that take over planets for one of the strongest villains in the universe, the one and only Frieza. On one of the planets Bardock receives a power that becomes a gift, and a curse. This power allows Bardock to read minds and to see the future. Once Bardock receives this power he realizes that Frieza is coming to destroy the Saiyan home planet, Planet Vegeta only because he is afraid a Saiyan might rise and become the ultimate fighter... a Super-Saiyan. After a few visions Bardock attempts to defend his home planet even by himself. In one of his visions he sees himself fail but also sees a kid.. a kid named Kakarot, rising and becoming a great warrior. Kakarot turns out to be Goku, Bardock's son. As Bardock gets closer to his and the planet's fate.. he sees visions of his son rising and matching up with Frieza and even defeating him. After this Bardock receives his fate, and sends a few words to his son, Kakarot. This movie also shows scenes from when Goku battles with many of his foes at the very end. Only one drawback, besides the dubbing, the movie was too short! I think if they stretched it a bit, or showed more of the future (when Goku goes up against Frieza) I would have given it 5 stars. No doubt though, any Dragonball fan should buy this movie! It's an absolute HAVE for the collection!

If you only like dragonball z for the super sayjins then this isn't the movie for you, but if you are a major fan this is great background for the series. It basically tells the story of Gokou's father Bardock and how he and Vegita's father were killed by Freeza when he blew up the sayjin home world. It also shows small parts about how Gokou and Vegita came to be and how they ended up on earth. All in all its a great movie.

Bardock: The Father of Goku,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dragon Ball Z - Bardock the Father of Goku - Dubbed in English (Edited) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This was a great DBZ story to watch, the animation is drawn kind of like the Cell saga, and is a little more emotional than the other four movies. This DBZ story is about Goku's father, a low-class Saiyan warrior who goes to planet Kanassa with Tora, Vosha, Bordos, and another guy (I don't know his name), to eliminate the Kanassans and sell the planet to Frieza. In the morning, one Kanassan is alive and strucks Bardock on the back of the head, giving him the ability to see into the future. Bardock later sees the horrifying vision of planet Vegeta being destroyed by Frieza, and tries to stop him. All in all, the music fit great with the battle scenes, it was especially cool when Bardock vanquished Dodoria's men! This was a great DBZ movie, and you should see it now. It would have been nice of FUNimation would make a TV special about Brolly or even Turles, but oh well.

I have only seen the japaneese version but i know this is a great story. I shows goku as a baby with his father bardock (the guy freza killed) You see scenes from saiyans taking over planets to freza destroying Planet vegeta along with the entire saiyan race, except Veteta Nappa Radiz and the one no one knew about Goku. A true classic for any fan who wants the whole story.

The best DBZ video ever created !,
By Craig Juan (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dragon Ball Z - Bardock the Father of Goku - Dubbed in English (Edited) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I finally got the chance to buy my first DBZ movie. I was about to get "Dragonball Z-The History of Trunks", until they completely sold out again ! But, my hopes were up again when I saw "Dragonball Z - Bardock, The father of Goku". I thought it would be very boring like the three early DBZ movies like THE DEAD ZONE, THE TREE OF MIGHT, and THE WORLDS STRONGEST....but I was wrong. I popped it in my VCR and just as I know it, this movie was well done. The intro has a good beat (better than the original Japanese DBZ tunes) and the animation is cleaned up as always, thanks to FUNimation. This movie has everything that I looked for in a DBZ animated movie. Bloodshed, martial arts, and so on. Unlike the other scripts of each of the DBZ episodes, the script to this movie isn't half bad. This movie has one of the best lines ever in a DBZ movie with a pinch of "evil" lines. When I saw the new episodes to Dragonball Z, I was very disappointed with the fact that the characters use such bad jokes that only idiots would pull off...ugh ! But this script is pure excellence with little bad lines. Too bad there's no cussing in it. Unlike some of the DBZ movies with repetitive background music, Dragonball Z - Bardock, Father of Goku has the best background music that the Japanese version should've added instead of those annoying orchestral tunes. This movie has alternative music. Though I'm just a fan of Rap/Hip-Hop and Trance music by reputation, I think that the alternative music is fit for the action. If you're sick of the same three DBZ movies you see almost everyday and you're desperately looking for a perfectly good DBZ movie, Dragonball Z - Bardock, Father of Goku will not let you down ! Buy it now while it's still standing in the video shelves !

This is a tape you don't want to miss. Thought I have only seen the Japanese version, I think is great. Here you will see Goku's father. You can't miss him since he looks just like Goku. Here is were everything begins. When Goku was born and sent to the earth. You also get to see first hand the destruction of planet Vegita. And let me tell you something that Goku and his father had in comon that unique fighting spirit.

This review is from: Dragon Ball Z - Bardock the Father of Goku - (UNCUT) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is one of the best films ever in the histery of DBZ. It is about when the saiyens were ruled by Freaza. In the movie a group of saiyens are destroying a planet. The leader of the group is named Bardock. Just as they were about to destroy the planet it's king cast a spell on Bardock. It made him see all the bab things that would soon happen to him and his saiyen race. In the end Bardock confrounts Freza and is killed by him. If you realy like DBZ you should get this great tap. If you like charectors ,like, Vigeta, Ratiz, or Nappap you will realy like this!!!!!!!!!!
