4.0 out of 5 stars Has potential, but falls short January 28, 2014
Platform for Display:Sony PlayStation 3
I'm probably not alone when I say every DBZ game that comes out is compared to Budakai 3 and Tenchaichi 3. This game is nothing like the two and that is not a good thing. I gave the game a 4 star rating because I'm a huge DBZ fan and I can't bring myself to give it a lower rating. First off, the game is aimed toward online game play. Offline only gives you the option for single player. No split screen play which is a huge mistake by the creators. You can't even make matches in single player. You have to do the missions that they give you and choose the characters you would like to attempt it with. For example, you are going to fight Vegeta. You can choose Goku, Krillin, Gohan, Tien, Yamcha, or Piccolo. It doesn't make sense considering Tien, Yamcha, and Piccolo should of been killed by Nappa, but you need to choose 4 characters for the fight. You can even just use one character 4 times which is kind of strange. The combo system isn't good either. You get the ability to move around freely, but the camera can get annoying. I've done a couple Great Ape battles which are a huge improvement from the last game (Ultimate Tenchaichi) that was all button combo's. This game has done away with all the button mashing and combinations which I am very happy about.

I won't comment on the online mode because I really haven't played it yet. I'm sure other reviews will cover it, but I'm sure it will be better then the offline mode.

Overall the game to me is fun, but I really wouldn't recommend it if you are looking for another Tenchaichi 3 type game. I will never understand why the creators of these DBZ games don't listen to the fans.

2.0 out of 5 stars A depressing tale of lost potential February 4, 2014
Platform for Display:Sony PlayStation 3|Verified Purchase
Oh how I've waited for this game! Even before it's announcement I had been dreaming of such a title. Dashing about on the ground and gliding around in the sky through a spacious landscape doing battle with my allies against a small army of enemies or one particularly devastating foe. Complete with destructible environments, cast and missions faithful to the story line, and an all around enchanting levels with an impressive artistic vision. Then one day the trailer for this game arrived; I was entranced.

How mistaken I was.

To be fair, let's start with what this game does right. When the game actually plays in a sensible way, it is rather entertaining. AI usually target one another which let's you feel in control of the fight. Occasionally there is an enemy hop, and sure, you can take the less noble route and gang up on a single opponent with your allies. Seeing these battles go according to plan is a thing of beauty[1]. But that's only assuming that it goes according to plan[2]...

[1] Speaking of beauty, the artistic vision of this game is brilliant. There are a few hiccups here and there both with the visuals and audio, but they can be forgiven as they are minor as well as few. The characters are vibrant, and the environment truly is something to behold. The game, from a visual stand point, looks exquisite. I've already stated as such numerous times, but each mention is necessary. The game genuinely looks top-notch.

[2] Speaking of things not going according to plan, let's discuss the complete chaos that ensues at the drop of a hat that is completely beyond your control.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just missing PvP February 23, 2014

Really great game, cool graphics, story line follows the way it should, and awesome characters. The only painful downside and no player vs player offline...

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best DBZ fighters around, but not perfect. February 27, 2014
Platform for Display:Sony PlayStation 3|Verified Purchase
I'll start by saying that this game is an improvement from past iterations. It offers a lot in the way of characters(TONS OF CHARACTERS!), and open-world spaces.
The real meat n' potatoes of the game comes from the multi-player. 4-on-4 online battles, or 4 player co-op battles highlight this experience, and it's really really fun, especially when combos and special moves come together for the ultimate synchronization.

The reason this game gets 4 stars is due to the dodgy A.I. It doesn't really add much, nor does it make it fun to lose 10 times in a row because the A.I. doesn't want to heal or resuscitate your character, no matter how much you level them.
This game is great when you have 4 people (HUMANS!) playing at one time, but by yourself, it's a chore. Overall, it's a decent game, but it is flawed to some extent. I do recommend it to fans of the show.

4.0 out of 5 stars You know who else like DBZ...MY MOM February 3, 2014
Platform for Display:Sony PlayStation 3
I'm a big fan of DBZ, both anime and video games

the latest installment is DBZ battle of Z, which is a Battle Royal Fighting game, which reminds me of an old PS one game "Dragon Ball Z Legends"

the game contains:

1.) 60 missions that including extras and special like fighting Goku's Family

2.) 70 characters including characters from the new movie "Battle of God" pulse a Goku Naruto Sage mode Costume( they are 4 type of battle: Melee, Ki Blast, Support, and Interference)

3.) Giant Boss battle which is crazy

4.) battles online with up to 8 Friends or Co-op with friends in mission if they need help with it.

5.) Custom characters with edit color and card to boots up with power

6.) use special attacks, meteor chain, and the new Synchro Rush (Meteor Chain is use you and your Partners, sometime the AI miss the chain)

7.) During the Battle, if your KO or your partners get OK you can use Revive Soul to save them or you (sometime the AI don't save you, only if you have Support Type Characters in your party.)

8.) if you have the PS Vita version (digital copy only which i have) you can upload your save date from the PS3 Version to the PS Vita to take it on to go.

Pro: the game is crazy and fun, the giant boss battle are great, Customize Character(I Auto Customize cause I'm Lazy), the controls are the same.

Con: lack of offline modes, camera angle suck, sometime the AI don't Revive me or heal fast enough(Stupid AI)

Overall: I finish the game in 6 days, DBZ Battle of Z is a good game not the best but fun... also it shouldn't be $59.99 it more like $29.99 for this game. if you look away with the bad things and look at it with the good things go for it, if not then sit this one out.

WOOOOOOO WOOOOOOO BEAT IT EGG HEADS CLASS IS DISMISS WWWWWWOOOOWOWOOOOOWOWOW!!!
