5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Fighting Games and An Amazing Fan Service! November 7, 2012
Color Name:Xbox 360|Verified Purchase
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
First, this review is coming from someone that did not play these games when they originally released. I have, however, played most of the Dragon Ball games released this generation. (except for Raging Blast 2) For those of you that don't know, the Dragon Ball Z Budokai HD Collection is packed with Budokai 1 & 3, NOT the Tenkaichi installments. This HD collection is done well, and packs plenty of content for the price.

The game retells the events of the Dragon Ball Z series. Budokai follows a more traditional storytelling method (w/cutscenes), while Budokai 3 uses the Dragon Universe. Budokai 1 goes up to the final battle with Cell, while Budokai 3 tells the complete story. If you're familiar with the source material, manga or anime, you'll experience many of the memorable events. I should note: the cutscenes and menus are at a 4:3 ratio instead of 16:9 ratio.

The gameplay starts off a bit slow, but as you get a hang of the controls, you'll eventually feel the intensity the series is known for; nothing like lightning fast combos, with a kamehameha to finish! You learn new moves as you progress, and also have the ability to transform in mid-battle. Specifically, X is to punch, Y is to Kick, B is your Ki, and A is to guard. (a bit deeper as you learn, but I won't get too specific.) Both games play as traditional 3D fighters, like Burst Limit.

The graphics are as great as they possibly could be. Remember, these aren't supposed to be full HD remakes like the recent Halo: CE Anniversary. Budokai 1 looks a bit rough, but decent, nonetheless. On the other hand, Budokai 3 looks amazing; the graphics can compete with some of the recent installments in the series and a couple of games released this generation.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's over 9000!!!! November 6, 2012
Color Name:Playstation 3
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
When DBZ Budokai 1 came out I immediately fell in love with the game. 2 years later, Budokai 3 came out and it exploded into a new intense era of DBZ games. I remember spending countless hours and hours playing Budokai 3 and after it's 10 year release of 2002 the series of DBZ Budokai is still amazing. The remastered collection brings out the most upbringing graphics of today's standards. The visuals make the game even more intense and fun as well. To be honest, I was never fond of the Tenkaichi series because it drifted away from the fighting style in which Budokai containted. Although both series have their own set of standards, I choose the Budokai series instead since there was so much action and criteria.

Budokai 1 contains 23 characters
Budokai 3 contains 38 characters including 8 fusions and reincarnations which total 46 characters.

Pros:
Remastered in HD
Supports trophies
Beautiful graphics
Intense action and fighting (especially Budokai 3)

Cons:
No online multiplayer
DBZ Budokai 2 is not included
Price should at least be $30
Other characters should have been imported from DBZ Infinite World such as Super Android 17, Baby Vegeta, Pan, etc.

Nevertheless if you are new to the DBZ Budokai series and like and/or love fast action packed fighting games, then this is the game you will definitely want to pick up and play. As for old comers, you will still enjoy the game it left out since 2002 :D

P.S

For new comers, I would play Budokai 1 first so you can see and learn the origin of how the Budokai series started and as you go into Budokai 3, be prepared to be spend countless hours of staying home and playing it :D

P.S.S

What 9000? :O!!!

First off I will say this game is the same as Budokai 1 and Budokai 3, except with better graphics, achievements/trophies, and new music.
People seemed to be concerned about the music, the fact that the origninal music from the Budokai games was replace with the new music from the Tenkaichi games is due to the fact the composer for the Budokai games had plagerized the soundtrack from another artist. Due to the that the music was changed.

Aside from that this game is an excellent buy, with the only knock on it being there is no online mode.

5.0 out of 5 stars an honest review from a dragon ball z fan November 18, 2012
By James
Color Name:Xbox 360
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
i've been a fan for a long time, i had the first budokai back when it came out for the play station, i have played all budokai's, tenkaichi's, and even other ones like buu's fury, legacy of goku 1 and 2, and sagas, now time for the review

Dragon ball z budokai:
This games was pretty good, when i first got the game i thought it was awesome, but since i've played budokai 3 and raging blast and stuff it didn't bring back as much nostalgia as i was hoping. The graphics are ok, not too awful yet not too great but what more can you expect from a game that was made a long time ago, the story line is very short, it covers the saiyan (sp?) saga, the frieza saga and the android saga, the story line covers only the highlights, i beat the story line in about 2 hours, after the story line, you have to go back and look at the chapters since they add things from the enemy point of view, instead of looking from the traditional goku point of view against vegeta/frieza/cell, it will put you in the enemy perspective and you have to defeat goku, so if you got the hang of the game tack on another 30 minutes or so, after that, you have the world tournament, levels are novice (3 fights), Adept (4 fights)l and advanced (5 fights) win each to get achievements and prize money which you can use to buy items to customize your characters, **spoiler** i just used vegeta and kicked, when he kicks he sends the opponent flying so i just got them by the edge and kicked them out of bounds. now since it only reaches up to the android saga, there's no one from the buu saga besides great saiyaman, no buu, no goten, no trunks, not even adult gohan.
