I have absolutely loved DBZ for 13 years now. Having seen many different manga and anime this one still stands alone for its phenomenal character development and bone crunching action! I also like the fact that Viz put out a 'big edition' so one does not have to buy each chapter separately (expensive). My only two problems with this edition is that (1) it is edited- middle fingers/swear words are changed or edited out and (2) the original cover art is included but not all of them are in color. Other than that it is a good edition of the greatest shonen manga ever made!

Now I know alot of people are thinkin Dragon ball z is so boring. But if you read the graphic novel that just may change. You see since cartoon network doesn't play DBZ on tv anymore, its hard to see the first episode. But when I bought this book that changed and thinking it boring changed too.

I came to like it alot! its a perfect starting manga for any new manga fan. Since I just got into manga it was perfect for me. Now before you buy this book I should warn you there is some bad language in this book. So I would really recomend this book for any child 10 and up. Funny,action cool,martial arts, its got it all Dragon Ball z VOL.1 BUY IT NOW!

This was the first manga I had ever bought, now I'm hooked! I never really got into the TV series because I didn't watch any of the first episodes, and you can't just jump into the show in the middle, because nothing is really explained. That's why I dicided to get the manga when I found it in a book store.

Dragon Ball Z is a continuation of Dragon Ball, in which Son Goku learns that he is in fact a Sayian, a warrior-like alien race who destroy the inhabitance of planets for profiet, and Goku was to destroy all the humans on Earth. But when he got here he hit his head and lost his memory. Now he must defend his friends and the planet Earth from the 3 remaining Sayians.

I like Dragon Ball Z for its great characters and compeling storyline. And, of course, the ACTION!!! I believe the manga is better than the TV show, because it isn't that slow-paced. In my opinion, this is the best manga and the the best manga for newbie-otakus. If you want the story from the very beginning, I suggest the manga Dargon Ball Vol. 1. That one is more comedy than action, but still very good. Just buy it, you wont regret it. Siutable for ages 9 and up, for mild violence and language (not very much language, mind you).

The book I received was in great condition. I actually didn't buy it for myself though. It's a christmas present for my cousin. He has always loved the Dragon Ball series. I actually got Sean Schemmel to sign it also. So I would say it's great, but that's not for me to decide in the long run. :)

This manga is an awsome book for fans of Dragonball Z. In this manga, Raditz comes to Earth looking for a sayian, which turns out to be Goku... HIS BROTHER!! If you know the storyline to this part you'll know that Raditz isn't exactly the kindest person in the world. When Goku refuses to help him destroy planets, Raditz takes Gohan, Gokus son. In the end Goku and Piccolo fight him but when Goku realises hey can't beat him without some sacrifices. Goku offers his own life for piccolo to destroy both Raditz, and Goku. The book ends with Raditz warning them about the other sayians that will come in just one year!

Are you a fan of Dragonball Z? Because if you are, I would highly recommend this manga for you. In this manga, Raditz comes to Earth looking for a sayian, which turns out to be Goku... HIS BROTHER!! When Raditz explains that he and the only other two sayians in the world are taking over planets and destroying them. When Raditz asks' Goku to join them, he refuses, of course. So Raditz, beging the sleaze he is takes Goku's son Gohan. Goku and Piccolo deside to fight Raditz and follow him to his space pod. There they fight. After fighting for a while, Goku realises that he can't beat him without some teamwork. Togather he and Piccolo defeat Raditz, but Goku paid a terrible price. His LIFE. And Ragitz with his final breath, tells Piccolo to watch out for the other two sayians who will come in just 1 year... What will the heros do? To find out by volume 1 and volume 2!

I work in a public library and let me tell you, Dragon Ball Z is still one hot item. The volumes we have fly off the shelves and come back very well read!

Which brings me to the main point AGAINST this edition, from my in-store observation: the cover is hard, but the binding is still soft glue! The cover will last longer, sure, but the pages will still fall out same as the regular editions (which themselves cost less than half of this one!).

For your money, I'd recommend the VizBig editions Dragon Ball Z, Vol. 1 (VIZBIG Edition) (Dragon Ball Z Vizbig Editions)

This is an awsome addition to the collection of the DBZ Graphic Novels. It starts when Vegeta and Trunks come out of the room of spirit and time, and have assended past the normal super sajin level. Elsewhere the androids #16 & #18 are on the run from cell who needs to absorb 18 to gain perfection and even now seems invinceable. Earts only hope is Vegeta and Trunks. Vegeta fights cell first and absolutly dominates the seemingly unstoppable monster. But soon becomes boered with cell's pethetic attempt to survive, in the heat of the moment Vegeta makes a desicion that could destroy the known universe he let's cell absorb #18!!!! Just how terrible is cells perfect form and how powerful will he become???

The Dragon Ball Z manga is a piece of art and should be in every collector's hands. This DBZ #1 is actually Dragon Ball #17 of 42, but this part of the story is fine to begin with; backstory is not a problem, since DBZ is a different stage of the lives of the characters. It is 160 pages of fun and wonder. Besides, for only $8 why would anyone pass up this opportunity? I guarantee this story will have you hooked. To buy more for less expensive prices buy used versions on Amazon, or buy new at ShonenJump.com

If you are a fan of the DB or DBZ anime series, than you will probably love the Manga. Dragon Ball Z starts off the series with a huge plot twist from the first. We had already known Goku was not an ordinary boy from the start, but we never would have thought he was an amnesiac alien who was sent to earth to destroy it. Toriyama's good storytelling explains why Goku never completed his mission and instead took a turn from destroyer to savior. Fans of the series will recognize Goku's brother Raditz right away as the villain. Anyway, the manga is better than the anime,so get ot tee an start reading.
