Let me start by saying I am a huge fan of the original Dragon Ball series, more than it's younger brothers Z and GT. After being disappointed by the movie Dragon Ball Evolution, I was looking for a new and better outlet for Dragon Ball and found this game. There aren't that many video games modeled after the original DB and this the first one to be released to North American home consoles that wasn't "americanized" and the wasn't a portable. The main game is in the style of an old school beat-em up but with 3D graphics and keeping with the old school style, this game is pretty tough. Not Mega Man Or Ninja Gaiden Hard though, you know that good kind of hard. You have to keep in mind that this is Kid Goku...the storyline takes place when he was a strong, kinda stupid kid learning about the world for the first time. There are only a few things that I found annoying about the game:

- The bosses take a little too long to kill unless you use a Kamehameha. This wouldn't be a problem if it were just General Tao or King Piccolo that this happens but it's with almost every boss. This is part of the reason the game is just a little tough and kinda long.

- There is no co-op play...that was pretty disappointing to me. Beat-em ups are always a lot more fun and a lot easier when you're playing with friends. This could have saved this game from being just above average. The only time you can play with someone else is during the tournament mode.

- By far the best thing about the original DB series is the humor. In this game there's hardly any. The tone of the story mode is a little too much like DBZ instead. I wish they would have added a little more humor in this game.

- The tournament mode is pretty stale. It's reasonable that the fighters can't fly around like they do in the Budokai Tenkaichi series. It's appropriate but it still doesn't save it from being kind of boring. I would have liked better if they didn't include this feature and try to make it like a co-op beat-em up.

Bottom line: If you are fan of the original Dragon Ball series I recommend it but to everyone else I probably wouldn't.

I love Dragonball (who doesn't). This game was actually a 2.5D side scrolling adventure RPG made for the Wii. If you are familiar with the dragonball RPGS for gameboy advance, this is something similar to the experience you will be able to play on the Wii.

The story is pretty much Young Goku's adventures of the original Dragonball series but the story is more an emphasis on the King Piccolo ark line.

The controls are simple and easy to get into, the game play itself is a bit repetitive since it is mostly side scrolling platforming, fighting, and puzzle solving. Even though it is repetitive, it's not boring when it comes to the boss battles, many hardcore Dragonball fans will remember the old characters both heroes and villains of the series.

The cutscenes are also very well done since it was made by the same development team that made DBZ:T3 on the same model engine.

If you are not familiar with Dragonball, this is not for you, but if Dragonball is a part of you, this is a good game for the price for those needing a break from DBZ.

My son asked for many video games this Christmas, and I bought most of them. Although this game was not on his list, I picked it up for him on a lightning deal. He enjoys the cartoon, so I took a chance on the game. He loved it! He played it more than any other game I bought him this year! Turned out to be a great gift at a great price!

This game adds a fresh thing to the franchise of Dragon Ball, I feel the game is very nice and people who love platform games will enjoy a lot with this game. The graphics are great with a lot of detail, the bosses are huge and impressive. The controls are good but I am having difficulties to adapt to use B button to jump.

Another thing I like of this game is the story, the voice actings are wonderful and makes the story even more entertaining.

I recommend this game for all people like me who like a good adventure game with our favorite hero.

4.0 out of 5 stars Platforming action done right, January 9, 2012
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dragon Ball: Revenge of King Piccolo (Video Game)
Dragonball ROKP is a very enjoyable platformer for the Wii. I found that the game's combat system, while criticized for being basic, works well. This game is challenging without being overly-difficult, not a common feat for action platforming games. ROKP represents a different type of Dragonball adventure game than the Dragonball Z Sagas (Gamecube version also available for play on Wii). Where Sagas is 3-D and has a two-player co-op mode, ROKP is mostly 2-D and only has one-player co-op. One other drawback besides not having two-player co-op is that the tournament mode is a joke, with almost no variation in fighting styles among competitors.

I liked this game, it was a little childish with most of it's challenge (except for the final boss). If you are looking for a fighting game look elsewhere because the fighting in this game is weak. However if you like games like double dragon or other beat-em up type of games then this game if definitely what you are looking for.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't let the other reviews get to you, the game is fun!, October 28, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dragon Ball: Revenge of King Piccolo (Video Game)
Having a bunch of gameplay/feature/graphic shizz doesn't mean a game that's low on that isn't fun. Dragon Ball Revenge of King Piccolo, despite the fact that there's only like 10 moves you can do (yes...10, more than you might've thought), the stages are pretty linear, and the game is lacking in modes, IT IS FUN! Especially the boss battles.

I'm a type of gamer that just cares about having fun and not so much about all the specs, and this game works for me. It's not super easy either, you'll have to repeat several of the boss battles to beat it, and it covers the story pretty well. Due to all the problems you are probably aware of I cannot give the game 5 stars, but I've rated it four.
