Another solid season set,
This review is from: Dragon Ball Z: Season Six (Cell Games Saga) (DVD)
Dragon Ball Z is the one greatest anime series ever created. With its action-packed universe and compelling storylines, Akira Toriyama's magnum opus has never failed to please. This is the latest season set FUNimation has released of the series.
This set picks up where the last one left off. In his Perfect form, Cell is seemingly invincible. After the Z-Fighters were unable to defeat the villain, he retreats, stating that in 10 days time he will hold a tournament, so that he may fight the strongest fighters in the world. Our heroes go into training, knowing what lies ahead will be their toughest battle yet. The DVD set is divided amongst six discs, and contains the complete Cell Games Saga (the post-Cell Afterlife Tournament episodes are, disappointingly, NOT included. They will be featured in the next set.) The picture has been subjected to digital noise reduction, and the set includes a booklet of character profiles and episode listings. Obviously, if you're new to Dragon Ball Z, you'll want to start with the Season One box set, but if you're already a fan, you'll enjoy these episodes. The previous set contained some excellent fight scenes, and you get plenty more of them here, including Gohan Vs. Cell - one of the most legendary of all Dragon Ball Z fights. The first 10 episodes or so of this set are terrible - some of the worst anime-only filler in the series, with only the occasional interesting moment, like the coming of a new Guardian of Earth. But once you get past those stinkers, it's an all-out thrill ride for the latter two thirds of the package. The Cell Games (first 10 or so episodes aside) feature some incredible battles. It's just a shame the "afterlife tournament" episodes weren't included. I, personally, thought those episodes always worked better as "Post Cell" episodes than "Pre-Buu" ones, though my opinion may be in the minority there. One of my personal favorite features of the set is the Marathon feature. FUNimation includes a feature in these sets that allows you to view all of the episodes on each disc from start to end with no interruptions from intros/outros/recaps/etc. This is an extremely handy feature I wish more TV shows on DVD had. Like earlier Dragon Ball Z season sets, the picture has been cropped at the top and bottom (this was done due to excessive grain and damage to the original source), and it has been subjected to the digital noise reduction process. Obviously a lot of fans, myself included, were disappointed to see the picture get cropped. While the digital noise reduction doesn't do as thorough a job cleaning up the image as you'd hope, it IS the best these episodes have ever looked. In other words, it's a "give and take" scenario. You lose some of the picture you could see on earlier full-frame DVDs, but on the good side, you gain some picture on the sides, and the image quality is superior to all earlier DVD releases. Sound quality is similar to the earlier sets. English audio quality is fantastic, but the dub is still translated poorly and the voice cast is hit and miss. On the other hand, the Japanese audio quality is poor, showing its age, but it does feature a well-translated subtitle track from Steven J. Simmons that lets you experience the series as originally intended. Additionally, like the earlier sets, you have the option of watching the English voice cast played against the original Japanese audio. Disappointingly, the next episode previews aren't included. But they weren't in any earlier season set, so it's no big surprise. No special features are included here unless you count the trailers and the same textless opening/closing sequence all other sets like this have had. On the good side, the set does include a booklet similar to the earlier sets, with character profiles and an episode guide, making it handy to go right where you need to go on the DVDs. It's another great Dragon Ball Z season set, enough said. Easily some of the best material in the entire series. If you're a fan of the series and don't already have these episodes, you can get them all here for one low price. Cropping issues aside, this is a great set, and a good value, especially compared to the older DVD releases. Highly recommended to any fan of Dragon Ball Z.

It's all about Gohan!!,
This review is from: Dragon Ball Z: Season Six (Cell Games Saga) (DVD)
I've been a hardcore Dragon Ball Z fan since I first discovered the show in middle school, especially when the spotlight has been on Gohan. To me, he's the easiest character to relate to and I've always admired him for it. He not only copes with major self doubts, but learns to overcome them as his father helps him to believe in himself as his epic battle against Cell takes place.
I've watched this part of the series at least two dozen times and still get goose bumps with the way it ends. I can't think of a more inspirational cartoon moment than when a banged up Gohan manages to take down the super-freakishly powerful Cell through the help of his friends and father. If you haven't yet seen it, then I highly recommend that you see how this magnificent story goes down. Cell is also my favorite DBZ villain as well. Not only is he the most tricky villain to defeat, but he's the only one who ever successfully managed to kill Goku. He seemed like an indestructible superhero to me before that and it takes quite the bad guy to defeat him. So with all these flowery words I've said about this box set, do you wonder why I only give it FOUR stars? Well there's two reasons for it. Not only am I still annoyed with the widescreen format that they put this into, but HOW COULD YOU PUT GOKU ON THE COVER INSTEAD OF GOHAN!?! THIS IS HIS TIME TO SHINE IN THE SERIES, PLUS GOKU IS ALREADY ON THE SEASON 2 COVER!! (Sigh) Oh well, what's done is done. If you consider yourself a DBZ fan and haven't bought this one yet, do it. Overall, you won't regret it.

Dragonball Z DVD Season Review,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dragon Ball Z: Season Six (Cell Games Saga) (DVD)
I purchased the DVD boxsets for the Dragonball Z series... seasons 1 through 7, and plan on buying the rest once they are released. These are excellent DVDs. The ability to run the episodes back to back as a 'marathon' series that cuts out the intro vids / credits between each episode is a great way to enjoy this series.
I would highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of this great anime series.

Definitely loads of action and for fans who love the Cell saga...you're definitely not going to want to miss this one!,

The Cell saga continues as Cell who has sinced absorbed the androids 17 & 18 is now complete but not it's time for the battle that everyone has been waiting for. Goku vs. Cell which later becomes Gohan vs. Cell.
Without revealing too many spoilers in regards to this season, not only is it full of action, the series had a great build up of how evil Cell was, his goal to achieve his complete stage but also to showcase the additional characters much stronger than before and trying to take Cell down. Whereas the Friezer battles were long but I felt a bit drawn out for the sake of having many episodes, with the "Cell" storyline, I just felt that everything came together quite well and didn't take forever to get towards the conclusion. I really enjoyed the camaraderie of Goku and his friends and most of all to see Vegita and his acknowledgment that he has things about himself that he really needs to work on. And you also get the introduction of Mr. Satan, world's greatest champion which will be interesting on how he and his family become important to the series probably in the next upcoming season. So, definitely stay tuned for that! But overall, this is another wonderful box set for an awesome animated TV series. Definitely for those who love action and can't get enough of it. As for my problems with the last season box set which disc 4-6 only featured three episodes, season 6 fortunately features a full disc 4 but season 5 and 6 has only three episodes each. But I kind of understand as they transition to the next season which will take place several years into the future and these DVD box sets are created to have six discs and not five. And again, for $29.99, for all these episodes, about the same price or less than buying an American television series box set and Funimation has definitely set the standard which I hope many of the anime industry will follow. You get the bang for your buck for these season box sets! VIDEO: The video looks great on DVD and for those of us who have multi-generation fansubs or fading VHS tapes, just having these episodes on DVD and everything looking great. I know some people have a problem with the show receiving some cropping but for me it's quite miniscule. SPECIAL FEATURES: Special features include trailers and open and ending themes. If there was one thing lacking, it's the fact that there are really nothing in terms of special features. Season 6 was another action-packed season that I could have probably watched in a full sitting. I found myself really attached to each episode and not wanting to stop because there was so much action and this time around, each character has its importance. From Kirilin having feelings for Android 18, Android 16 showing his love for nature and wanting to help the team, Goku showing his newfound power but noticing that his son has an even impressive power, Vegita and Trunks together trying to develop their relationship as father and son which never happened in the future Trunks lived in. And so much more! This was among my favorite seasons of "Dragon Ball Z" when I first watched it air in Japan but knowing what's coming soon next season with the Super Saiyaman series and especially the Buu series and more characters and development, I can't help but be excited with what is coming next from Funimation. Again, more bang for your buck with these box sets and for "Dragon Ball Z" fans, you don't want to miss any of them. Check it out!

Towards the Future,
This review is from: Dragon Ball Z: Season Six (Cell Games Saga) (DVD)
FUNimation release or not, I've been anticipating the Cell Games for months now: at last, the Z warriors step into the ring to take down the haughty Cell (Norio Wakamoto, turning in an almost beastly performance).
Although Z is reputed to be somewhat of a WWF-esque slugfest in the States - and perhaps even deliberately marketed as such - this arc pulls no punches in regards to the emotional wringer that particularly Gohan, Goku's young son is put through. The climax of episode 184 is unforgettable.

Why is Son Goku on the Cover?,
By
This review is from: Dragon Ball Z: Season Six (Cell Games Saga) (DVD)
Is anyone else as pissed as I am that a picture of Son Goku (from the Frieza Saga no less) is on the box cover instead of SSJ2 Son Gohan? Son Gohan is the true hero of this saga (though Son Goku does play his part as always) and should of been given the honor of adorning this box set with his likeness. The Cell Games Saga is my favorite of the series so I'm definitely gonna get this box set, but it still woulda been nice to have a fully pumped up SSJ2 Son Gohan on the cover.

If you have not seen it, to appreciate season six, You need to buy from season 1 - 5. I wish I had done so and seen it in strict order.
This is especially true as it relates to the humble character of Gohan and the heights of achievement a father's love makes possible. Season six also lays the foundation for the subsequent MaJin Buu series.

Season 6 Review (NO SPOILER!!!!),
This review is from: Dragon Ball Z: Season Six (Cell Games Saga) (DVD)
This is a great season!
Here are some nonspoiler thing that will go on in this season! Is he now a good guy? Wow, what power! Get out the way! No....don't go!!!! Hurry, destroy him!! Go Trunks!! Can Goku really beat him!? Haha, that's all I can say to make you hyper, unless you want spoilers....However, some of DB/Z/GT believe in Evolution (like the myth of humans evolving from monkeys) that is my only disagreement since evolution is not true! God made everything according to its kind. -The thing I love the MOST about DB/Z/GT is that it is like a Christian show!! Goku is the one who always leads everyone the correct way, He is the savior of the world! (Symbolic to God leading us the right way & being our Savior!) Goku trains & helps his friends to become good fighters (Symbolic to God "training" us in His Word) Goku trusts in his friends knowing they will do the right thing. (Symbolic to God trusting that His true followers will obey Him & go His way) Goku always shows love & mercy even to his enemies & evil people. (Symbolic to God showing all us people, whom have broken His Perfect Law -The Ten Commandments- and yet He still gives us Mercy to flee from sin & follow Him) Goku believes anyone can change their life from bad, to good. (Symbolic to fleeing from our sins & following the Will of God) Goku was like a father, always protecting people from evil (Symbolic to how God protects us from evil & when the storms comes, He's still with us) Everytime it seems hopeless & like evil will prevail & there is no way out, Goku is always there to help! (Symbolic to no matter how strong the temptation or urge is, God always provides a way out for us because He is with us) When the Saiyans or other fighters feel like there is no hope, they go into a new level of strength (Symbolic to when you are weakest you are strongest) Like with us when we feel we can't resist the temptation or do the Will of God, we still press on and reach a new level or strength.....haha, like a Spiritual Super Saiyan, being much stronger into & with God then we were before. When the fighters are fighting & they feel there is no hope, someone else usually comes to the aid (Symbolic to God will never leave us & He always provides help) DBZ is not only a great show but I look at it through a Christian sense, look at it as a Christian sense, it's symbolic, it'll make it 10x better! I know it did for me!
