Your only choice, if you can't get Final Bout...,

I went out the next day to get this game after I saw a commercial for it. Since I only have a PSX, and the ULTRA rare DragonBall GT: Final Bout is the only other DragonBall game in North America for PSX, this was my only choice for a DBZ fix. Graphics:3/5 Sound:2.5/5 Controls:3/5 Gameplay:2.5/5 Presentation:1.5/5 Overall:3/5

Got the original Japaneese version of this game a LONG time ago, it's not that bad of a game, as the name states it's 22 DBZ characters including everyone from Goku to Super Majin Buu (No Kid Buu). Basically 2-5 characters from each of the DBZ series.Game is a simple 2D fighter with a basic 3D background. Unless they totally redid this game (and given the price of $, they probably just did a quick translation) it's nothing to write home about. Each character does basic kicks and punches with some special moves here and there and all characters have a variety of projectile attacks. Characters can "levitate" or fly, or fight on the ground and you can toss projectiles if your opponent is either above or below you. Pretty simple. For the price this game isn't too bad. Chances are if the kiddies are knee deep in Dragonball stuff they will add this to their collection, so that's ok, but there are better games out there. Fighting feels pretty basic and it doesn't take long to figure out how to block just about anything the bad guy throws at you. There's a "Build-up" mode where you take a fighter and as you win fights you "level up" and get stronger with a longer health bar. You can take your fighter to your friends and duke it out with their fighters. Kind of Tomagotchi'esk... Just remember, you get what you pay for. Also depending on how much this game has "changed" there should be a code to unlock 5 extra characters. (Young Goku from Dragonball, Mr. Satan (aka-Hercule), and 3 others I can't remember as I write this)

Dissapointed.....but ok,

I got this game the day it came out expecting a spectacular game......I was very dissapointed.FIrst of all the energy attacks are NOT glorious beams of energy they r these street fighter like fireballs. For me this cost this game a star. The next star was gone because of two things, the graphics and voice overs. The graphics r horrible it looks like a cut out drawing moving on a not very well done 3-d backround.1/2 star gone. Then the voice overs r just......a piece of shi* it sounds like a midgit girl doing the same voice over and over again.1/2 star gone.Even though there r more errors these r my main problems some of u might be like "u cant say that about a dbz game!"ull see what im talkin about if u play this game. but for a diehard dbz fan this game rules!

Dragonball Z Ultimate battle ( Your turn to save the world),

This review is from: Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Battle 22 (Video Game)
This game rocks it has lots of characters such as Super Majin Boo, Super Saiyan 3 Goku, the great Saiyaman, Goten and other really great characters.(You have to unlock SS3 Goku By completing the game) In story mode you fight many opponents some more powerfull than your character although you can go beyond your starting characters' power level such as ascending beyond a super saiyan or you just have fun blasting them to bits!!

I've waited a long time for this game to come out in the states. The game was awsome when I played it. The game starts out with 22 characters (thats why they call it ultimate battle 22). Then you unlock 5 more characters. the game is the BEST!! and its cheap. Its way worth the $$.

Good game and all...,

Its a good game and all, and I like it. Its pretty cool, but there's some things wrong. First, the music:there's gotta be maybe 5 songs, and I seem to always get the same one every battle. Gets kind of annoying after a while, but I dealt with it. Second, and I'm not autistic or something, but I couldn't seem to pull off even some of the simpler special moves, seeing as their explanation for them is just a picture of the arrows with the direction you go, then a thing that says this way, this way, this way, this way, then whatever button. Doesn't tell you to press it after you finish with the arrows, or to do it on the last arrow, or whatever. But, seeing as I've only had it for a day, I'm sure I'll realize what an idiot I was and realize that its very easy. Third, the only difference between everyone's moves is their special moves (maybe 5-7). But for some reason the computer is very good at just repeatedly pulling out attacks that aren't on their special attacks list (or so I think). So it is kinda difficult in the build up mode. Otherwise, the rest of the game is fine, with the build-up mode, where you build up a certain character, play against the computer mode, play against a friend mode, and battle the character you built up against a friend's. If you're a DBZ fan, I'd recommend this game, since its only 20 bucks. It's a nice addition to your collection, and I'd say its worth it. By the way, you get the code for the extra 5 in the instruction packet. I heard there was a way to get a whole bunch more characters, but I'm not sure. With the code they give you, you get Master Roshi, Kid Goku, Goku SSJ3, Vegito, and Hercule. Supposedly the other one gets you a bunch of SSJ4 characters. Not too sure. Anyway, get the game. It's good.

Well, this game is okay, has weak spots and good parts. I own it. Now, the graphics are garbage. The characters don't look good. DragonballGT Final Bout is a better buy if you can find it. Ultimate battle 22 has a whopping 27 characters! The game has all the characters from the DBZ sagas. Here are all the characters: Goku Gohan Tien Master Roshi Recoome Captain Ginyu Freeza Cell Vegeta(Majin) Future Trunks Kid Trunks Zarbon Great Saiyaman Android# 16 Android# 18 Dabura Goten Gotenks Vegeto(Gogeta)

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Battle 22 (Video Game)
It is not really the game. Sure this game is not the best anyways, but it is the NA release of this game that is messed up.
Long before this was ever released domestically I bought the Japanese version of the game, which I played on my Playstation via disc swapping. The game was decent at the time and it played normally. I just received the North American release today (picked it up from Amazon for a mere $5) and I have to say that they really messed this game up. The major problem with this release is the controls. They are totally unresponsive. The difficulty was on easy (standard) and I could not beat any of the CPU opponents, simply because I could not move as they could. Infogrames totally messed this up. Additionally, they took out animations of the characters talking to each other before (and most likely after, though I do not recall) the matches. It is quite obvious too, because the game will say loading, show a black screen, then load again; bringing you back to the character select screen. That is that. I just wanted to inform people about this issue. It is not the game, it is the NA release of the game. If you want to play the real game, you are going to have to import it but at this point it is no longer worth it unless you are a collector.

I don't not wan't make you fell bad about getting this, but it's not DBZ quality and lets not speak of GT. This was the last game I had before I sold my Psone. The game play is ok, but the graphics suck now I must remind you this game is old it's very old in Japand. Let me get to the point the energy blast suck they look like there shooting snot bughers. The characters look ok they fight pretty fast. look the point is it depends on how you think it is. I say rent it first if you dont like it or you do you decide. This game to me is just unsatisfing, but one thing I comend this for is the fighting is faster than on Dragonball Z budokai 1,2.
