4.0 out of 5 stars A doer in a clan of thinkers, Vengeance born, perhaps sated., November 10, 2001

Dragon was one of the better stories so far, but I suspect that it would be better to read Crab before Dragon. THe stories very much go together.

The Dragon have long contemplated the empire, and had a very important, though understated impact on the Scorpion actions.

The story follows the heroine throughout her career, through the forces that molded her, and the lessons she had to learn to obtain some of her potential.

It has enough mysticism inherrent between its covers to satisfy the profile of such an eccentric clan, and handles this well.

Internally the Dragon Clan suffers growing pains when it rejoins the workings of the Rokkugan Empire, as those that have long been contemplative take action. This too is handled well.

Even if you are not a fan of the Legend of the Five Rings series, it is a good read, and I would recommend it to any that is interested in fiction in the style of the far east. If you have not read Crab (Clan War ¿ Fifth Sroll), I would strongly suggest reading it first, though not imperative, it will add flavor to the meat of Dragon (Clan War ¿ Sixth Scroll)

4.0 out of 5 stars Ms. Understood, January 17, 2004

I think this book is good BECAUSE the dragon lose their mystery and wonder. This book puts the Dragon totally out of it's element. I think she writes the families in the clan well. The Togashi are still full of mystery and riddles. The Mirumoto are warriors who respect that mystery and would love to posess that knowledge, but don't quite understand it. I will say that it can get a little dry, but hey, it's the calm
(kinda calm, don't forget Beiden Pass) before the storm baby! Good book. Shows the maturation of Himtomi, Yakamo, Toturi, and the degradation of the Hantei. Good book, don't listen to them.

1.0 out of 5 stars Is she a Crab or a Dragon?, January 9, 2002
This review is from: The Dragon (Clan War Sixth Scroll) (Mass Market Paperback)
Ree Soesbee has a very unique ability, and that is to take any interesting clan and make it dull, 2 dimensional and very boring. Apart from a couple of glimmers in The Crane she managed to ruin them. Now she has sunk her claws into the Dragon. The Dragon a clan of mystery, riddles and enigma in all regards. Until now, there is absolutly none of that in this book. It lacks completly in every department that the Dragon are known for.
The characters are completly flat and she failed to make even the interesting of them worth reading. Whatever this book is about it certainly isn't the Dragon. If you have the rest of the series then you have to get this one to know what is going on. But every single page is a struggle. I hope this is the last novel that Ree Soesbee does.
