5.0 out of 5 stars A GENIUS BEYOND COMPARE!"!!!!, October 10, 2005
This review is from: The Dragon is Dancing (Audio CD)
As i look at the 'music' available , in to-day's market, i wonder even more at the incredible talent evident still in the late 60's/early 70's singer-songwriters!!..Jackson Browne & Neil Young being "obvious favourites, however, if i had to name one individual artist that undoubtedly went beyond anyone else in terms of originality , and who truly truly blew me away, i wi0uld have to say ...Jimmie Spheeris!!! I happily own (& treasure)) all his albums..(to me, personally) "Ports of the Heart " stil remains his best....this album, now happily on c.d., "The Dragon is dancing" was also a true, true giant of an album, definitely some of his most haunting songs...the title & opening track will forever remain a classic piece of music! All of the songs here are memorable(as usual) "Lost in the midway" recalling his experiences working in the circus, is a mind-blowing tour-de-force, the lyrics, as with "Blue Streets" will haunt me for all time , and that voice ..just about the most magical/mystical voice you could ever imagine!!"Love's in vain" , is the one song i always will particularly cherish on this set ..a song that will always bring tears to my eyes ..it is so , so beautiful!!All of Jimmie Spheeris's albums were nothing less than masterpieces!!Definitely one of the greatest singers & songwriters of ALL TIME!!..BUY!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Master, July 31, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Dragon is Dancing (Audio CD)
As usual, he has done it again. This is an excellent follow up to the two previous works by this great artist. I have been waiting for 10 years to hear this music again (I previously owned only the record) and it is even better than I remember. The whispers rising to intense pounding beat. Awesome, he was truly the master and lightyears ahead of his time. I highly recommend all of his works.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must-have for acoustic folk fans, November 18, 2004
This review is from: The Dragon is Dancing (Audio CD)
In some ways, this CD may be one of Jimmie's most diverse works. It's introspective, joyful, with a good solid guitar riff backing in spots.

"Lost in the Midway" talks about his growing up with the circus.

"Tequila Moonlight" talks about the joy of being young and alive.

"Mr Snake Man" Who says daughters of Eve are through with temptation?

And, that's just the beginning. Take a trip with Jimmie to the various vignettes of his mind. Prepare to be lost at times, but when you find yourself--what a joy!

5.0 out of 5 stars In the Misty Woods, November 23, 2003

My first experience with Jimmy Spheeris was on some early saturday morning TV show where he performed the song The Dragon is Dancing, singing and throwing his arms around to some bizare dance.I thought that the song was interesting though and after meeting a tall georgous woman on my bowling team who liked him I had to learn more about him.
He turned out to be great and she just turned me out.Suffice it to say I still appreciate to this day being turned onto his music.
Jimmy Spheeris makes me think of warm fires out in the cold dark woods,Laughing and joking and loving as well.
It is great to see his music still available as I love all five of the Cd's I have and wish I had the live CD.
The Dragon is Dancing is very interesting but to me a strange way to start an album,I think he was trying to get away from the misleading folky label put on him. This album although it doesn't rock outide of Snake Man it is definetly a rock album with hard guitars along with the trip into the mystic.
Favorite cuts are Blown out,In the Misty Woods,Sigh's in a Shell,Tequila Moonlite,Eternity Spin all form make this Jimmy's best release in my opinion.

This third album takes us to a different balanced place with Jimmie. Most familiar is the title, Summer Salt, which received FM soft rock radio play upon its release back in 1975. It is not the most captivating track compared to; In The Misty Woods, Sighs in a Shell & Lost in the Midway. These tracks are some of Jimmie's best. He is a folk/rock under appreciated icon. Not really ahead of his time, but deeper than most of writers of his time. Personally, I like Eternity Spin & Blown Out as these are colored with fuzz power guitar and Jimmie's wispy voice. You won't find writing like this anywhere else. I think about the time when the record was first released. In the Misty Woods satisfied the Pink Floyd need and the Acoustic folk rapture I so enjoy back in those days and currently. Jimmie Spheeris is an acquired taste. This was probable his most successful commercial endeavor and a good place for any new listener to start.

4.0 out of 5 stars dragon dancing, December 30, 2008
This review is from: The Dragon is Dancing (Audio CD)
this is a great album by a great artist. i can not decide if this album or his first album is his best work. jimmie spheeris to my knowledge only made four albums and although they were all good this one and the first one "isle of view" are absolutely magnificent and must have recordings. i saw this tour at "the armadillo world headquarters" in austin, texas and it was one of the finest shows i have ever seen. "eternity spin" (track 7 on this cd) was his opening number and it just got better from there. great album! great artist! great concert! buy this cd.
