Product Description

A vining, terrestrial or epiphytic cactus, with fleshy stems reaching from a few inches up to 20ft long (in mature plants). The plant may grow out of, and over the ground or climb onto trees using aerial roots. Flowers are ornate and beautiful, and many related species are propagated as ornamentals. They bloom only at night, and usually last just one night where pollination is necessary to set fruit. In full production, pitahaya plants can have up to 4-6 fruiting cycles per year. The fruit is popular eaten chilled, out of hand. It is also used to flavor drinks and pastries. Unopened flowerbuds are cooked and eaten as vegetables.

I ordered a 3" nub of a cactus. What I got was a 3" nub of cactus-WITH TWO 6" ARMS COMING OUT OF THE BASE. These arms can be cloned to produce two more dragonfruit cacti. as it that wasn't spectacular enough, a 3rd arm has since grown out and now, it is about 5" long. It's way too little to produce any fruit but, I have grown to love a cactus. I used to hate the spiky things. Now, I own one thanks to these guys. I will be cloning one or two arms. But, all ways around, this was a great buy.

It didn't take a long time in the mail but when it got to me, it looked a bit odd. The top part of the cactus was a bit yellowish, it was kinda thin in the middle where it was bending over a little and in the same spot, it looked as though roots were growing out. Then, a couple weeks later, it appeared to be growing roots out near the top of it. Anyways, I'm not sure if this is super bad but it's what I've observed and I'm hoping it grows up to be a lovely cactus.

Edit:
It's been over a year. It hasn't grown much at all. It hasn't died either, though. I've got another of the same cactus that's suppose to be a little different in what kind of fruit it makes. It's from a different company and I got it around the same time. It grew a bit more than the one I got here and seems to be doing a little better. But I think the fact that they're both still alive is pretty impressive since they've been through a lot with moving to new places twice and getting knocked over a couple of times.

I PURCHASED ONE OF THESE DRAGON FRUIT CACTUS'S ONLINE AND IT CAME TO ME IN ABOUT A WEEK. IT WAS IN A SMALL BOX AND WAS POTTED IN A SMALL BLACK POT WITH PACKING PEANUTS. IT WAS ONE CACTUS WITH ABOUT 4 SMALL GROWTHS OFF OF IT. ONE OF THEM WAS DAMAGED SO I CUT IF OFF AND THEN CUT THAT PIECE INTO TWO SEPARATE PIECES AND THEN STUCK THEM BOTH IN THE DIRT. I REPEATED THE SAME PROCESS ON ONE OF THE OTHER LARGER GROWTHS ON THE CACTUS.THIS IS CALLED CLONING AND ANYONE CAN DO IT...ITS WHERE YOU CUT OFF A PIECE OF A PLANT LIKE A BRANCH OR IN THIS CASE A SECTION OF A CACTUS AND PLANT IT IN GOOD SOIL AND IT WILL FORM ITS OWN ROOTS.. BASICALLY MAKING ITS OWN PLANT.. HENCE THE NAME "CLONE". CACTUS ARE USUALLY PRETTY EASY TO DO THIS WITH. I LEFT THE ORIGINAL CACTUS WITH JUST TWO GROWTHS AND RE-POTTED IT IN A MUCH LARGER CONTAINER. I DID THIS ABOUT A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO AND ALL OF THEM HAVE SURVIVED AND TAKEN ROOT. I NOW I HAVE 5 CACTUS'S. 3 OF THEM ARE STARTING NEW GROWTHS AND HAVE GROWN .. THE ORIGINAL HAS A GROWTH ON IT AND IT'S GROWING AT ABOUT A 1/4 INCH EVERY 4 DAYS.. IM TRYING NOT TO OVER WATER.. I HAVE THEM ON MY FRONT PORCH WERE THEY RECEIVE ONLY ABOUT 4 HOURS OF DIRECT SUN. I HAVE A PRICKLY PEAR CACTUS THAT DOES GOOD UNDER THESE SAME CONDITIONS. I ALSO CLONED THESE FROM A NEIGHBORS CACTUS.. I BOUGHT SOME DRAGON FRUIT SEEDS ONLINE FROM A DIFFERENT COMPANY AND NONE OF THEM GREW.. THE SEEDS CAME SMASHED AND USELESS... SO IF ANYONE OUT THERE IS THINKING OF BUYING SEEDS OVER A PLANT I WOULD RECOMMEND BUYING A PLANT. AND IT DOESNT REALLY MATTER FROM WHO BECAUSE THESE CACTUS ARE VERY STRONG HARDY PLANTS AND ARE KINDA HARD TO KILL.. EVEN IF THEY COME BROKE OR DAMAGED JUST CUT IT OFF AND REPLANT..'CLONE IT'.. ALSO WHEN NEW LARGER GROWTH COME OFF OF IT, YOU CAN CLONE THEM TO.IT SHOULD ONLY TAKE A COUPLE OF WEEKS TO ROOT.. I HOPE THIS REVIEW HAS BEEN HELPFUL.

This plant was small (about 3") when it arrived and looked a bit ragged. Giving it my tender loving care it has put off a new branch and is now about 2' tall. It seems to be happy in it's new home. I think the plant was a bit over priced. If I bought this in the store and in the condition it was in.....I wouldn't have paid more than $3.00 no more than $4.00 for it. Keep in mind that it did live and is doing well.

Item was delivered fast and packaged nicely, but the main stem growing out of the pot has a type of gray mold/fungus (I'm not sure) all over the top of it and where the branch of it breaks off to continue growing was barely attached. I had to secure a wooden brace to make sure it didn't break off. It seems to be growing well but the mold/fungus is still there and I cant seem to get rid of it.

With the price I paid for this plant, I would expect at least, it is healthy. But it is not, this plant is almost dying. I wish the seller is honest enough to let us know the condition of the plant they are selling.
