Teru has finally made it back to Tokyo to look for his family, and what he finds there is about what he expected; the city is destroyed, the ash is thick in the air, and the streets are deserted. That does not mean, however, that the city is empty... we get closer to unraveling the mystery of the Dragon Heads and get a nightmare tour of downtown Tokyo post-disaster. As always, Mochizuki is adept with creating claustrophobia with liberal use of blackspace and character body language. Another solid volume. *** ½

Volume #9 of Minetaro Mochizuki's "Dragon Head," deals primarily with Teru's adventures in Tokyo as he witnesses the scope of utter destruction, comes across a group of survivors, seeks out his home and family and continues his search for Ako and Nimura. As always, the pacing and art is excellent and Volume #9 sets things up nicely for the final chapter in this epic series - Volume #10.
