4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, August 9, 2005
This review is from: Dragon Magazine, No. 54 (Paperback)
Dragon Magazine has been a great resource for those who play TSR's Dungeons & Dragons, and other games, since it premiered in 1976. Issue #54 came out in October 1981 (when AD&D was still in its 1st edition), and while it does not have an overarching theme it does contain quite a few interesting articles. Among the articles are:

Down-to-earth divinity: on creating a pantheon of gods for your AD&D (1st ed.) campaign.

Ruins: A fascinating article on filling up a ruined city, including tables and description of what is likely to be in the different sort of places.

These are the breaks: New rules for weapons breaking in ordinary use.

Giants In The Earth: Stats for the four lords of Demonland from E.R. Eddison's The Worm Ouroboros, and Gaveral Rocannon from Ursula LeGuin's Rocannon's World.

Dragon's Bestiary: Stats for three new monsters, the boggart (evil brownie), the stroan (an intelligent aquatic insect), and the incubus.

Overall, I found this to be a very good issue, with lots of goodies in it, not least of which is the Sage Advice column. If you play 1st edition AD&D, then this is a very nice resource for you to get.
