Very good, September 8, 2005
This review is from: Dragon Magazine, No. 55 (Paperback)
Dragon Magazine has been a great resource for those who play TSR's Dungeons & Dragons, and other games, since it premiered in 1976. Issue #55 came out in November 1981 (when AD&D was still in its 1st edition), and while it does not have an overarching theme it does contain quite a few interesting articles. Among the articles are:
Several reviews of the then-new AD&D Fiend Folio from TSR-UK.
A lengthy article with new rules for using dinosaurs in an AD&D campaign, including statistics for many dinosaur species.
An article on racial types to be found in the Greyhawk setting.
Statistics for Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men!
The Coming of the Sword: a fantasy short story by Gardner F. Fox. This is the story of Gunthar of Northumbria, who finds a princess sealed in ice by a treacherous sorcerer. To see her home will take them both on a voyage through adventures that neither expects.
And, also, The Creature of Rhyl, an interesting Basic D&D adventure for a low-level characters.
Overall, I found this to be a very good issue, with lots of goodies in it, including some new monsters. If you play 1st edition AD&D, then this is a very nice resource for you to get.
