I purchased this software for my 3rd grade dyslexic daughter from [...]. She loves it! I am tempted to get another one for me for work as well. We definitely speak faster that typing at 100 words a minute.
I first used this software about 9 years ago when I was teaching special education at the high school level. It has greatly improved since then. There are not nearly as many mistakes and the training process (teaching the computer to understand the way you speak/your accent) is simpler. It took about a half hour for her to train and she picked up on the phrases right away! She really enjoys writing emails to family now and controlling websites and Windows programs with her voice. She will start using it at school next week. I'm so glad that she has a way to get her thoughts on screen/paper. She is creative, but was getting so frustrated with spelling that she began to shy away from writing. I believe will make a huge difference in her education. If you are purchasing this for someone who is blind or dyslexic, you might need to whisper in his/her ear what the type says on the screen during training. Also, talking naturally in phrases or sentences before pausing works better than waiting for the word to come up before saying the next word. It uses the context to help figure out which words to use. For example, it will wait to hear the rest of a sentence when you start off with the word "There"/"Their"/"They're". If you want to have it include automatic punctuation (commas, periods, question marks, exclamation points) you can set it that way. I chose to turn it off so that my daughter has to tell it the punctuation to improve her writing skills. I am really impressed with the advances this software has made over the years. There are also versions that work with phones/bluetooth and other devices, I believe. Enjoy!

I have used this product for about two weeks. In my view, this is a magnificent, sophisticated program. I could not be happier with it. The software recognizes extraordinarily complicated words. Words that are used uncommonly can be dictated for the software, and can be recognized by the software the next time they are used. I recommend this software highly. (I dictated this note using Dragon 10.0; I made no changes to the dictation.)

So far I have enjoyed the use of Dragon. The info needed to master the use of it are somewhat overwhelming;however going to the tutorials on an as needed basis makes it more manageable.

look if you are expecting a type writer u should hire one!!! this product is like a baby the more you work with it the better it works, it can't recognize every single word you say becouse its a SOFTWARE. it works best when u teach it, its not a human being that fills in the gap about everything u say so if say "holoo" it wont recognize it but if keep working with it it will understand your language i think if u are looking for a product to just say anything you want and it will write it u are better off hireing or typing but if you give it time and let work with you it will work great. if you think you have an accent dont try it becouse it will frustrate you and the software you have to talk to it like reading a book to a baby and the more you talk to it the older itt gets and the better it works. great product for people who can pronounce words like reading a novel to an audinace but dont expect it to relize and recognize every word you say. 5 star indeed becouse my my baby is like a 6 year old now and it recognizes most of the things i say but errors are always there. againe Its a software not a HUMAN BEING with schema to fill in the gaps of everything you might miss pronounce

Bought Old Version a Few Years Ago,

Not a techie, a few years ago I called DNS people admitting I know nothing about computers and asking what I need to know in order to get it working on my 2002 computer. She said all I needed was a CDrom, then the disc would walk me thru it. Since all other software I've bought has been easy, I believed her.
After buying it I slipped the disc in and learned I didn't have enough megabytes, so I took it to a computer store, paid to add the maximum which happens to have been less than a gig (which turned out to be optimal). Then the disc tells me I don't have enough virtual something or other so I contact the computer guys who tell me that in order to get it working, I need to buy another computer. I just couldn't get there from the computer I have. Now I'm in the position to buy another computer and have been told that the version I have is now too old for the new computer I'll buy so I'll likely have to rebuy DNS if I still want it. Moral of the story: Make sure you can match system requirements before buying DNS cuz they're specific and atypical and they wouldn't refund my $200 bucks saying it was my responsibility to know. Now it seems cheaper at least. Good luck! ps. can't rate what i have yet to sample but this software made me do it ;) |
