Too much history, too little romance.., January 3, 2007
It depends if you are fond of the I-want-my-readers-to-learn-history-by-reading-my-novels type of BC writing, I rather read a novel with a lot of twists and turns around the romantic couple than learning about China and its situation in 1900.
Here is the summary:
"Stanton Ware pondered the person who would be chosen as his companion on this dangerous mission to Peking. Undoubtedly it would be a man who was used to spy out the secrets of rivals. Certainly he would be a brave and patriotic companion. The door opened. Stanton almost betrayed him-self by uttering an exclamation. For, it was not a man who had entered the room, but undoubtedly the most beautiful girl he had ever seen in his life!"
ANYHOW. Although I didn't like this novel, I kept it for one line said in the middle of the story:
"Careful, child, the gods will be jeaolus if you insist in comparing me with them", Stanton Ware said
"Can the gods be jealous of their own?"
