Dragon Puncher is the perfect book for young readers with vivid imaginations. The bright colors and creative characters allow them to easily place themselves in the story, particularly in the role of Spoony-e. The way the story is told and drawn feels just like something they themselves might create which easily allows for them to continue the adventures of Spoone-y and Dragon Puncher in their own stories after they finish reading this one. I can just imagine the joy that James and his sons must have had creating this story and carries through into the tale. This is the perfect book for a parent to sit down and read with their kid (some words they might need help with) and enjoy a rousing good adventure.
This is one of our top bedtime stories - my 2 year old can recite it almost word for word. I've been reading James Kochalka's work for about 7 years, and it's nice that he has books for kids, too! At first we substituted 'hug and kiss' for the words 'slap and punch,' but it seemed ridiculous, and now we're using the proper words, she hasn't started hitting people or punching them.
