5.0 out of 5 stars Dragon Quest IV beautifully arranged, December 28, 2008
By Russell R. Heinrichs (Chicago, Il USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This cd set contains both the London Philharmonic reinterpretations on disc 1, along with the Japanese only re-release of Dragon Quest 4 on the Playstation as a second disc. While the Playstation version is nothing to shout about, it sounds much less harsh than the original 8-bit midi. The Philharmonic version is absolutely beautiful. It was very satisfying to hear music I loved on the 8-bit fully realized with proper musical instruments instead of the harsh 8-bit midi. Having said that, this cd is only available as an import, so you're going to pay import prices for it, and the half of the track listings and liner notes are in Japanese. However, for those that might appreciate it, all of the symphonic themes are presented in musical score in the booklet.

All in all, this is a beautiful piece of music, but you've really got to be into soundtracks, and are willing to front 50 bucks for a two cd set.
