Book Description

January 13, 1995 Dragon Star S.
A generation of peace among the Sunrunners has been shattered by a seemingly unstoppable invasion force. Now the time has come to fight back. Prince Pol and Maarken, his most valued general, must rally their forces in a desperate bid to halt the faceless army.

Editorial Reviews

From Kirkus Reviews

Second of Rawn's Dragon Star trilogy, which itself is a sequel to her paperback saga of the Dragon Prince. Pol, now High Prince following the death of his father Rohan, determines to stand and fight the mysterious, powerful Vellat'im invaders from across the sea; Pol's sole advantage seems to be that the invaders are terrified of dragons. Pol's cousin Andry, Lord of Goddess Keep and Sunrunner religious leader, has been gathering power and experimenting with ancient magic--a source of tension between Pol and Andry. Now, Andry has set his own agenda for protecting his Sunrunners, as yet unaware that the real motivation behind the Vellat'im invasion is the desire of their High Warlord to dominate and possess the magical Sunrunner women. Pol, meanwhile, is beset by treachery, as some of his supposed supporters scheme for personal advantage by seeking alliances with the invaders. The burning question, then, is whether Pol and Andry will be reconciled in time to avoid defeat. Well plotted and appealingly written, with some useful character development here and there. But the overriding assumption is prior involvement: even the introductory synopsis Rawn thoughtfully provides is impossible to follow without knowledge of the previous trilogy. Leave this one to find its natural audience. -- Copyright ©1992, Kirkus Associates, LP. All rights reserved. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

This book continued the dragon star series with a strong flourish. These characters never stop amazing me. I don't care who you are but you will connect in one way or another with one of these characters.

If you have had the pleasure of reading any of the books by Martin, J.V. Jones, Douglas, and Tolkien you will find yourself at home reading this series.

It is a 6 book set, yet only the first 3 are available for Kindle. My poor old paperback copies are nearly falling apart from the re-reads.

I read this series over and over. The characters are so richly developed, it's like revisiting old friends. This was the first series I read as a young adult. I am ruined! I read every fantasy series I can find, and though many are good, I can't find one that is better.
