With this converter I can play every game and tv shows that picture is 1080P but I cannot see any change in the quality by myself.

If your like me, sometimes too many 5 star ratings for a product can seem a little fishy. So as the title says, I was very skeptical of this accessory. I first started my Wii with component cables so that I could make a comparison, then I plugged in this HDMI converter. Right off the bat I was impressed. With my component cables I noticed that the colors were dull and every so often I got these little squiggly lines that made the picture look awful at points. I tried switching out my cables in the past but my newer LG 55LM7600 TV was maybe just too big and too High def for component cables. This HDMI converter solved those problems. I could not see a difference between 720p and 1080p conversion though. I see a lot of people say that it does not convert to 720p or 1080p, but my TV does an excellent job of up-scaling a 480 format to 720 (and supposedly 1080, but that's kind of a stretch), so this accessory along with my up-scaling tv bumped this up to a very clean 480p that was in my opinion is very very close to 720p.

As for some people that might buy this product, they may not see a difference between component cables and this HDMI converter. Personally I think it makes a world of difference on newer TV's that up-scale 480 formats and on bigger TV's. The bigger the TV the more distorted the signal gets in component cables. Some may need to free up component cables inputs, or some may only have HDMI inputs, either way this converter will help them too. I tried seeing a difference in Netflix Steaming between the components and the HDMI, and again I could see a clear difference.

In conclusion, this converter gives a very smooth picture.

As many know, the Wii can not output anything higher than 480p through component cables. This UP SCALES the 480p image into 720p or 1080p...it is not true HD, it is 480p cleaned up.

For what it does, it does look good. Colours are brighter and more vibrant on Super Nintendo games, and there are less jagged edges on Nintendo 64 games and Wii games. Gamecube games and Wii games that utilize Prog. Scan really benefit from the up scaling.

all in all, This is only recommended for people who can not use Component cables on their HDtv. If you want true 1080p from your Wii Games, use an Emulator.

This has been the answer to my prayers! I have been pulling my hair out wondering how I was going to connect all my electronic gadgets to my LG Cinema Screen 55LM6700 55-Inch Cinema 3D when it only had ONE AV/RCA component input. The Wii to HDMI Converter has allowed me to get rid of using my Wii HD component cables and only use this cute little device to hook it up to my TV via an HDMI cable. It easily connected to the back of my Wii system and I ran an HDMI cable from it to one of the open HDMI input in the back of the TV.

This is the HDMI cable I used: AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cable (6.5 Feet/2.0 Meters) - Supports Ethernet, 3D, and Audio Return. No audio cables needed since my TV supports it through the HDMI connection.

The picture was crisp and clear. There was no loss of quality in my video or audio and there was definitely less cluster.

The adapter I received had no hole for switching between 720p and 1080p. I had bought it to use with an HDMI to DVI converter to use with a 1080p computer monitor, but it didn't work at all. No signal to the monitor.

So I hooked it up to the main 1080p HD TV upstairs only to find that it was only outputting 480p. A cheap HDMI converter that did no upscaling at all.

After looking at other reviews for similar products here on Amazon, I found a black upscaler/converter by ViewHD and had that delivered next day. That product actually works perfectly for me.

I was shocked to be so blatantly ripped off by a fake product on here initially. I actually cut open the sealed case on the initial adapter to look at the circuit board, and there is no switch at all. It's not just missing the hole to access the switch. It's simply not there.

I ordered this product to work on a older hdmi tv (720p/1080i max resolution Sony Bravia KDL-V40XBR1). The product description says you can manually switch between 720p and 1080p modes by using a needle to press a button in the hole on the front of the unit. This is not the case!!! When I received the product, there was no "hole" on the front to switch between 1080p and 720p modes. So I contacted the seller (received a response after about 8 hours which isn't too bad) and they said:

"We contacted the manufacturer and were told that it could be the compatibility issue. In some cases the Wii to HDMI adapter could not read the TV's EDID correctly, so it could not be recognized by some TVs. They suggest that you connect all devices, turn on the TV first, and then turn on your Wii. If this doesn't help, the unit may not be compatible with your TV. If possible, you can contact Sony technical support. In addition, the manufacturer now only makes the new version (without hole). I am sorry that we do not have the old one to exchange for you."

So, the new "upgraded" version they are shipping will not correctly switch modes to 720p with my setup (and possibly not with other older hdmi tv sets as well), as the Wii2HDMI is sending out a 1080p signal to a 720p tv by default, and there is no way to manually change that with the "upgraded" version they are shipping.

The only reason for 2 stars is because the seller (or the Amazon fulfillment rep) was courteous and helpful even though they could not provide an adequate solution that worked in my case (other than try unplugging, power everything off, reconnect devices in order, etc). They also cannot exchange it for the older "manual" switching version - I asked them that as well.
