Should probably be the 'Future' History of Trunks <hehe>,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dragonball Z - The History of Trunks (Uncut) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Aka the "Trunks Special". This is about what would happen (have happened?) to the world if Trunks hadn't gone back in time to save Goku and warn the others of the coming of the Androids. (Alternate timelines can be so confusing!) Gohan, who is the last living Z-Warrior, realizes that he can not defeat the androids and begins training a young Trunks. I have only seen the Japanese version, so far, but I know that all Trunks and Gohan lovers will want this one. It has some really heart-wrenching moments in it.

If you are a fan of DBZ, get a hold of this dvd if you can!,

This review is from: Dragon Ball Z - The History of Trunks (DVD)
This dvd is mainly for the widestream American fans of DBZ. If you watched the series,(like so many), on Cartoon Network, it left out alot of story. There is a huge mystery as to where exactly trunks came from, how bad it really was, and how devistating the androids really were. Believe me, any questions you may of had, are definetly answered here in this dvd. The story starts off explaining the "real" story line to Dragon Ball Z, as to where Goku gets infected with a radical new strain of virus, which affects super saiyans. He passes away, and six months after that, the androids show up, and start destroying everything. Vegeta, Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, Chizazu, and Piccillo all fell to the androids awesome power. (excuse me if I misspelled any of their names) All that were left was Trunks, and Gohan. I don't want to give away any more, so just to sum it up (for those who actually saw the series), alot of fighting and battling, and then he decides to travel to the past to give Goku the antidote, and to warn him of the dangers to take place in 3 years from that point. Watch the dvd, and really see something. I still like to watch it even though I have seen it a couple dozen times. The one last thing that you must know, is the two languages play a key role in this dvd. If you play the english edition, it is good enough to make you understand exactly what is going on, but if you REALLY would like to know the true story, watch it in its original japanese edition. There you will see a different story all together. :) thanks for listening(reading). ENJOY!!!

The future that never was, and the future that never will be,

Chances are, if you're reading this review, you're a DBZ fan. And chances are, if you're a DBZ fan, you know of Trunks, the purple-haired pretty boy, and offspring of Vegita and Bulma. Trunks comes into the main DBZ story right at the end of the Frieza saga: he's from the future, an ugly future that is overrun by the two all-powerful androids, 17 and 18. They've killed off all the Z fighters (sans Goku, who fell victim to a mysterious heart virus before the androids came about) and the world lives in fear. This is the history of the future Trunks, and even though those who've seen DBZ already know what will happen, it's still a fairly good 48-minute DVD. The story is, admittingly, lacking (not only is this feature short, but it's, well, DBZ) and the fighting scenes aren't on the same level as some of the epic brawls in the main story, but the animation is solid, and FUNImation -- gasp! -- actually handled the video transfer well: everything looks extremely smooth; no grain, no jumpy screens, no rainbow. The dub is, as you'd guess, completely botched: dumbed down script, voice actors don't even fit their characters, and heinous music playing throughout nearly every scene (Slaughter, anyone?) -- simply put, the Japanese version has been mangled. There's also a lack of extras, but this is FUNImation, after all, so I guess it's my fault for actually expecting something good out of them. Still, The History of Trunks is a neat feature for DBZ fans -- Trunks fans especially -- with its surprisingly touching scenes, excellent video quality, good fighting sequences, and interesting take on a "What if?" world, but it won't win any new fans over.

I have seen the japaneese version so i can tell you this story is in the future when android 17 & 18 managed to defeat the earth special forces. It is the story of truks training with gohon, gohons death and his trip back in time. It features amazing battles between him and the androids. One of the best DBZ movies ever. Irecommend it to any fan.

What can I say, I'm an avid Trunks fan through and through. I asked for this video last year for my birthday and I literally cried when my mom told me she didn't buy it. I saved for a month straight to afford it and ran home eagerly clutching it, annoying my mom to all ends. I watched immediately (of course), and fell in love again with his utmost kawaiiness, Trunkie-chan! I had just become a fan of DBZ in September and this sparked my love for the lavender haired bishonen even more. I personally thought this was MUCH better than the Bardock special although I thought that one was pretty good. But heck I'm biased because I love Trunks! ^_^; I was crying near the end of this, it's so sad, you feel really bad for Trunks when you know all he went through, it explains a lot that the stuff they show us on Toonami doesn't. Set in Mirai Trunks's timeline, we start off when Goku dies and all the Z fighters reactions. We go ahed in time and see the androids blowing stuff up when Trunks is about 13. The movie's mainly about Trunks, Gohan, Bulma, and the other ALIVE characters and how much their lives have been ruined by the androids. It gets very emotional, especially the climax. At the end we see the Mirai as we know him in the series being beaten up by the androids. His mom convinces him to travel back in time to save the past and Bulma's goodbye. *Trunks waves, smiling* "Goodbye! I love you!" "I LOVE YOU TOO TRUNKS!" "If ONLY you knew how much..." "Oh dear... He's in your hands now Goku..." *It then shows clips from Trunks showing up to Android #17 and #18's first appearance.*

An amazing feature, but lacking in extras,

I decided to purchase this DVD after reading good reviews elsewhere on the web. For the most part, it is excellent. The story of Trunks trying to become a SSJ and defeat the Androids is a very compelling and emotional tale. If I was rating the feature alone, it would score the full 5 out of 5 stars.Where the DVD falls down a little, in my opinion, is the extras offered. Aside from both the English and Japanese versions being on the disc, there's little else in the form of extras. There are commercials for the Trunks, Androids and Cell Sagas, plus a commercial for the DBZ Store (online shopping). The only real extra that is noteworthy would be the World of Dragonball Z featurette. This 20 minute clip documents the world of Dragonball Z from history of the Saiyan race up to where Mirai (Future) Trunks shows up on the scene. New DBZ fans will find it quite informative, and it has a bunch of clips from episodes throughout the series. As a whole, this DVD is very good and I would recommend it to any DBZ fan, Trunks fans especially. If you don't like the English dubbing, the Japanese dub will satisfy you. If you like the English dubbed DBZ though, the VHS might be a cheaper alternative. Side note: When buying, I was under the impression that the DVD was Region 1 only (US & Canada). Upon examining the case, the DVD I was shipped is actually compatible in Regions 1, 2 and 4 (US & Canada, West Europe, Japan, South Africa, Australia and Spanish America).

More blood, more battles, and more surprises !,

Once again I stopped by at one of my favorite stores to find "Dragonball Z-The History of Trunks", and I thought my luck ran out when I didn't find any, until finally I went to the last store and I saw a DVD version of the movie. I didn't buy the VHS version, instead I bought the DVD version. It's way better ! And so is this movie. Although I did love the action in "Dragonball Z-Bardock, The Father of Goku", The History of Trunks is way better and more twisted. This movie is about a dark and twisted future with no hope of survival for humanity. Krillin, Yamcha, Chiaotzu, Tien, and Piccolo lost their lives against two killer Androids. Goku is dead in result of a heart virus. Only two fighters remain, a 13 year old boy named Trunks, and Gohan, the only son of Goku. These two young fighters are determined to put an end to these vicious monsters once and for all. But they didn't have enough power. Even Gohan, the only boy who surpasses his father's powers, was killed in battle with the Androids. Now it's up to Trunks to save the world by doing one thing...travel trough time ! His mission, to give Goku then antitdote, warn others about the Androids, and change the course of time ! Sounds intresting, huh ? Well it is ! This is one of the best DBZ movies that surpasses the action of the three early DBZ movies. To all DBZ fans, go get it ! It's definently worth it !

The second DBZ TV special shows Trunks' past, what led up to his first appearance, and how screwed up his life is. The story, which is based on a short story that appeared in the DBZ manga right before Goku vs. Cell, takes said story and deepens it, big time. I kid you not, the main death scene in this(I'm not spoiling it, but most people probably know who I'm talking about) is quite depressing, and the scene at the end when the androids torture Trunks and chase him around the area really gets to you, as his fear, pain, angst, and anguish wind up becoming the viewer's. The music and voice acting(both Takeshi Kusao and Eric Vale do great as Trunks in their respective versions) are both good, and despite the fact that the TV film is only about an hour long, it will still haunt you quite a bit even after it ends. Definitely a must have for a DBZ fan.

The Story of Trunks,

This movie/special is really good, I saw the original Japanese version and it was great. It tells the story of how Trunks ended up in the past to help the Goku and every one else defeat the androids. It takes place in the future and tells the story of gohan (the last surviving z fighter) training trunks to be a Super Saiyan! It starts out as Goku dies of the rare heart disease and every one else falls victom to the andriods 17 and 18 and Gohan is the last one to save the Earth, but there is another, Trunks then asks gohan to become a Super Saiyan. But a cautious Bulma doesnt like the idea, but gohan trains trunks anyway. But for some reason he cant turn into a Super Saiyan. The androids attack and it looks pretty bad for Gohan, Trunks is the only one who can help...

If you love Dragon Ball Z, this movie is for you. They did a wonderful job of explaining the life that Mirai Trunks knows and wants to change. This is an indepth look of how the androids took over his world and his efforts to help his friend Gohan and his mother Bulma deal with it. Essential for any DBZ collection!!!!!!!
