Yes, the game is fun. Yes, it looks very pretty. But unfortunately, the game is way too short, only covering up to the Cell Saga, and then it doesn't even cover all the events taking place up to that. I think only the Saiyan Saga is fully covered, but the rest are not. You don't fight Dodoria or Zarbon, and only two members of the Ginyu appear; only androids #16, 17, and 18 show up; no Cell Jr... I think you get the point. I am fine with actually having less playable characters, but not at the expense of playing through all battles in the series.
As far as gameplay goes, i like the controls. I actually use the analog stick to move the characters. Takes a little getting used to the fact that you can't charge up your Ki, game does it for you. Drama Pieces was a nice little touch, but they should give you the option of turning them off on story mode, cause they don't really add anything spectacular, and many times it throws off your whole momentum when the fight stops to show you a little 5 second scene. Overall, its worth a rental, not a full price purchase.

What did they do to my precious DBZ fighting game series?
Okay, it looks beautiful. I will admit that. I've heard people say "It's so nice looking that it looks like your are controlling the Anime itself". Well, the graphics actually blow the decade old animation out of the water. It would be nice to see the series re-done using this level of animation. And the positive reviews stop here. I'm an avid fan of the DBZ series. Esepcially so when it comes to the Budakai Tenkaichi series. I own 1, 2 and 3. Burst Limit is to the DBZ fighting series or games as a one legged grey hound is to dog racing. I am not sure if they dumbed it down for younger kids, if they just wanted to try something new, or just were too worried about the "pretty face" of the game. The DBZ: BT series is known for being high-speed, fast-paced, all over the screen action. Burst Limit just shoved 6 metric tons of lead down everyones undergaments. I am used to "rushing" and "dragon homing". Now I get Goku floating across the screen at speeds that would have him paced by balloons at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The controls have definitely been dumbed down. It's really just a matter of "wait till my Ulimate Attack powers up....and fire" system. There's crap for variety. At most, I would reccomend this game as a rental. I'll be selling mine very shortly.

The game could had been a lot better about the only they did real good at was the graphics which are kick a**, but other than that it was ok it would had been better if they made the gameplay like Dragonball z Budokai Tenkaichi 3.
For example the 3D range of movement, which I'm deapointed about not having in it. Also, could have completed each story line instead of leaving beats and pieces out, and added alot more characters. The controls were real good. The achivements are to hard on higher difficulties, but this game could have been alot better.

I'm not an expert on gameplay, but I have a great time actually playing it. It has pretty simple controls, and game mechanics. I've only had this game for about two weeks, but I'm doing pretty well in Very Hard mode, earning a Z rating on all levels so far except for one level (fighting that bastard Frieza!!!). The reason fans dump on this game is that it is more like a fighting game than a DBZ simulator like the Tenkaichi series. I personally find playing fighting game style to be a little more fun. However, one significant advantage that the Tenkaichi series has over this game is the character roster. Tenkaichi has a glorious amount of cool characters, while this one only has about 26 (I think). The game as you probably know only goes up to the Cell Saga and only features 2 characters from the movies that take place during this timeline. It also has a lot of repeated animation, which leads to the idea that this game may have been rushed. Maybe if we'd gotten a sequel to the game like the Budokai, Tenkaichi, and Raging Blast series, we could have gotten more characters, but that seems unlikely right now. Having less characters to unlock shortens the lifespan of a game that you've paid around 30 bucks for. This game also looks gorgeous. All character models and backgrounds look great. There are other modes to play, but you can play most of these fights anyway in versus mode. Time attack, would've been more fun if you had a time limit instead of getting a time for the leaderboards. I said there is a lot of repeated animation in cutscenes, but everything moves smoothly no matter how many times it's repeated. Overall if you like DBZ, you should enjoy this game. I just wish there were more characters, and in essence a longer campaign. Let there be a Burst Limit 2!

I grew up playing Dragonball Z Budokai, and later Dragonball Z Tenkaichi, on PS2. Thinking that this would be a continuation of those games, I bought it and was sorely disappointed. The combat system of the Budokai and Tenkaichi games, while certainly evolving while on the PS2, was mostly the same; any changes were easily learned with just a few practice matches. This game, however, has a completely different combat system, a system that I, personally, dislike. Everything else about the game seems good; the graphics are a nice take on a series where graphics have been fairly stagnant for a while, and the cutscenes interspersed in fights are interesting. For someone who hasn't played a Dragonball Z game before but is a fan of the series, this game will be a good entry point. For those who played the PS2 DBZ games, I would recommend getting something else (perhaps Raging Blast, a DBZ game more similar to the PS2 games).

I read a lot before purchasing this game, couldn't decide between Raging Blast or Burst Limit, in the reviews ppl said this one was better by a mile, and maybe it is, but the lack of depth of this game is a major letdown. It has few characters and its only like 5 hours to get thru story mode, i know is a fighting game, but DGBZ has a great and long sagas and they could have taken more advantage of that, tho the ones included here are managed GREAT!.
If you are really a huge Dragon Ball fan like myself, buy it, if no, then get some Street Fighter =)

Dragonball Z Burst Limit is really basicly a better version of Budokai 1 on the PS3. The first thing that blew me away in this game was the graphics, they are amazing! A lot of people down grade this game for only stopping at thec Cell Saga, but I think its part of the setup, for a well deserved sequal. The Z Chronocles mode is great, but could use a little work. The lip syncing seems like it was only made for the Japanese Dub, so if you have the language on English, thier lips will be in sync with their mouths 4% of the time. Also, Z Chronicles doesn't tell the DBZ story at all, and what I mean by that, is they'll throw you into a scene or fight, without even telling you why your fighting this person, so someone new to the DBZ universe would'nt be able to catch on AT ALL. The extra little chapters with Bardock and Broly was oretty unexpected, and fun to play. Overall, it's a pretty good game, but I wouldn't pay full price for it. Luckily I bought mine at a local GameStop for 17.99. I give dragonball Z Burst Limit a 5/5.

For Those Who Liked Budokai, But Not Tenkaichi,

Well, for everyone who rated this game down i have to say that I'm disappointed, it's not the best DBZ game by far, it's short and had a few additions that made the game unsmooth and sometimes rather annoying. But I'd like to state that it is MUCH better than the Tenkaichi series that infuriated me to no end. At least in this game it made you TRY to fight. In tenkaichi all my ultimate attacks were immediately countered by my opponent HOLDING THE LEFT STICK FOR 2 SECONDS which completely dodged the attack that i'd been saving up all match to perform..... WTF??? I much prefered Budokai 3 where at least half of my super attacks worked like...... well, SUPER attacks. So i'd like to close by stating that the game is fun, if short and if you want a fighting game that's easy to learn and fun for everyone then it's worth paying at least the 40 that you'd pay for Raging Blast.
