Review
I heartily recommend this little volume for anyone wanting to identify dragons and damsels, . whether just occasionally while engaged in other outdoor pursuits, or as a serious hobby. --Bruce Deuel, CA Fish & Game, an avid Birder, Shasta Audubon Society
For the price of $10.95 this is indeed a "must have" for anyone who wants to start studying these beautiful insects. --Hank Brodkin - SEABA newsletter editor (South East Arizona Butterfly Association)
Kathy Biggs has done it again. She has managed to pack an enormous amount of dragonfly information into an extremely compact format. ... [CDSW] covers an area which is heretofore comparative virgin territory. Up-to-date state publications in book format do not exist for 5 of the 6 states included in this book, the lone exception being California. While claiming to be just a beginner's guide, it is well suited to the serious amateur as well.....A truly great project!...This book is a must for any Southwest naturalist. --Rich Bailowitz, Arizona entomologist and author of Butterflies of the Southwest.
About the Author
Kathy Biggs has been a nature lover all her life. She and her husband built a pond, and quite literally, they came! At the time there were no field guides for western dragonflies, so in 2000, she wrote one: "Common Dragonflies of California," her first guide, was very well received. Her second book in the series, "Common Dragonflies of the Southwest" was published in 2004. This new dust jacketed guide updates and expands her first two guides. Kathy and her husband Dave go around California and the Southwest giving presentations on dragonflies and on building ponds for wildlife.
