5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful resource, April 7, 2007
By
This review is from: Dragonflies And Damselflies of Georgia And the Southeast (A Wormsloe Foundation Nature Book) (A Wormsloe Foundation Nature Book) (A Wormsloe Foundation Nature Book) (Paperback)
Finally a southeastern regional field guide to the odonata. This is a wonderful field guide covering the dragonflies and damselflies of Georgia but useful for anyone in the southeast. Large pictures showing color and sexual variations, range maps, flight time charts as well as text descriptions for identifications are all easy to access and read for all species. This is truly an asset to those interested in dragonflies and damselflies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good guide, November 1, 2008
This review is from: Dragonflies And Damselflies of Georgia And the Southeast (A Wormsloe Foundation Nature Book) (A Wormsloe Foundation Nature Book) (A Wormsloe Foundation Nature Book) (Paperback)
Great guide on odanates. Great photos of both male and female odes laid out well. Photos at times give dorsal and lateral views. Bulky for the field though, but stick it in a backpack and it works. Bought this for a trip to the south, but its not just for the south, I'm in New York and it has plenty of species seen here. Worth the money, very informative.

Giff Beaton's book is comprehensive, understandable, and also beautiful. Buy this book if you are not interested in the subject, you will be when you read it.

This book sets new standards for odonate field guides. In addition to covering the Southeast this book is also useful for people living in the mid-atlantic states. Photographs are excellant.

Everything I wanted is in this book: beautiful photos, identification tips, larva information, possible locations, flight dates, and much more.

If you have even the slightest interest in odonates, you should buy this reference.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very impressed, June 18, 2007
This review is from: Dragonflies And Damselflies of Georgia And the Southeast (A Wormsloe Foundation Nature Book) (A Wormsloe Foundation Nature Book) (A Wormsloe Foundation Nature Book) (Paperback)
I have recently purchased this book and I am extremely happy with it. It contains a great deal of useful information and I actually found the quick key inside useful. I admit that am not very familiar with odonates, but this book has helped me i.d. a good portion of the dragonflies I have in my collection and has really encouraged me to pay more attention to them on my outdoor excursions.
Highly recommend this guide!

5.0 out of 5 stars Review from Florida, May 29, 2007
This review is from: Dragonflies And Damselflies of Georgia And the Southeast (A Wormsloe Foundation Nature Book) (A Wormsloe Foundation Nature Book) (A Wormsloe Foundation Nature Book) (Paperback)
Even though I am located in central Florida, I found the book to be extremely helpful. We have many of the same odonates here in Florida. Only a few of our species are not covered in the book and these are primarily South Florida species. The pictures are large and vivid which is very important in IDing dragonflies. Information is also included on flight seasons, range, similar species, habitat and behavior all of which are helpful in locating and identifying these little critters. Also, this is the only recent book covering the southeast that includes damselflies, a real plus.

I actually joined the official Dragonfly Society of America after spending a great afternoon identifying not dragonflies but damsleflies in my garden thanks to "Dragonflies and Damselflies of Georgia and the Southeast." Illustrations and descriptions are extremely well photographed and well written and this book, along with a pair of good binoculars, will guarantee many a great summer afternoon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for Identification, July 12, 2010
This review is from: Dragonflies And Damselflies of Georgia And the Southeast (A Wormsloe Foundation Nature Book) (A Wormsloe Foundation Nature Book) (A Wormsloe Foundation Nature Book) (Paperback)
This is one of the best field guides that I have ever used. The pictures are clear and sharp. There is information in easy format that tells you when and where the insect is found. The comparison to similar species is also a big help. If you are interested in dragonflies and damselflies in the southeast, you should buy this book.
