4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun!, August 2, 2006
By Ben (Sydney, Australia) - See all my reviews
I bought one of these a few days back and received it this morning. My first reaction was that it was cheap and nasty, yes, it's made completely of plastic and the controller looks pretty crappy. I guess when I bought it however, I wasn't expecting too much, it was $60 Australian, and any other chopper would have cost around $1000 Australian (Chopper plus controller, plus battery charger etc). When I first tried it I was very careful not to give it too much power. It span around like others have described but once I adjusted the setting (as recommended in the manual) I was able to take off without it spinning around. For my first go (the first charge) I was using it indoors but I really didn't have enough room. On the second charge I took it out to a park. I gave it a lot more and was flying it around a lot better. I managed to get it about 20 meters in the air and was able to land it properly (albeit a few crash landings). It's not easy to control, but it is so much fun!

For the amount of fun that I have had with it so far, the $60 has been worth it. It's better than going out for a few beers anyway. I can't wait to take it out again! A mate from work bought one at the same time, so we were flying them during our lunch break (not at the same time though as they use the same frequency). We had so much fun with them, I can't wait until tomorrow to take it out again!

Seriously, if you don't mind parting with the cash, it really is worth it. But, here are some answers to the questions I had when I was buying it.

-Controls: It only has Up/down, left right/controls. There are no pitch/roll controls like you would find on a better chopper. This means that you can make it take of, but you don't have a lot of control over the direction that it takes. I think with a bit more practice I'll be able to steer it better, but for now I'm concentrating on taking off, keeping it in the air and landing.

-Radio Control Unit: The left thumb stick is the up and down controls, the right sick is the left and right controls. There are no calibration settings on the controller. There is no port to use with a RC simulator either. It's very basic.

-Construction: It's made of plastic, however the plastic is pretty flexible. I've crashed it a few times and it has survived so far!

-Charge time: 3 hours

-Flying time: 10-15 minutes.

-Parts: According to the manual you can order spare parts (blades, engines etc).

After playing with this chopper I'm now really keen to buy 'real' one. It has truly been the most fun I've had in a long time!

4.0 out of 5 stars Please Read, January 13, 2006
Durability:2.0 out of 5 stars Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This helicopter is NOT A TOY FOR CHILDREN! Thats everyones biggest mistake. These helicopters are fragile, because they have to be light, they are not meant for an 8 year old to fool around with because if you hand it to them it WILL BREAK! This helicopter is PERFECT for those who want to learn how to fly an R/C helicopter without spending big bucks. Also, for those who don't know how to read instructions, these helicopters are FOR INDOOR USE ONLY!! its not meant to be flown over a lake or pond or whatever body of water you might be near. The frame is LIGHT! it can be influenced greatly by the wind. The reason for a light frame is so that it CAN BE SMALL AND FLY AT THE SAME TIME!!! One last thing. These helicopters take some adjustments, which is why when someone busts it out of the package and decided to give it full throttle, it spins in circles. If you ever buy an R/C helicopter, its definitly NOT going to fly like mint the first time, it takes time and practice to adjust it correctly and learn how to fly it correctly. I have my mini r/c copter running fine. I love it. After the first day I had it, I was chasing my dogs around the house. This is definitly a great toy for those who have the time and patience to LEARN how to fly. Remember, good things come to those who wait. And to those who don't, you'll break your toys in five minutes.

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT FUN!!!, July 10, 2007
Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
Unfortunately there seems to be a lot of "bad press" in these reviews over this little fella. It is a toy, but not one for children or those without patience. It IS hard to fly, but with a little practice you can control it reasonably well and even get it to head in the direction you want it to. As for the durability - I'm suprised at how durable it really is, given it's light construction. It survived a large number of crashes, until I was stupid enough to try hand-launching it and it dived vertically into the ground, bending a rotor blade. This bring me to my only real criticism - parts are HARD to find. Other than that: proceed cautiously and you will have many hours of great fun. Don't listen to those who have written reviews who rate it only 1 star - they clearly haven't been patient enough or used much common-sense
