Sweeping, Powerful Score,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dragonheart: A New Beginning (2000 Film) (Audio CD)
You wouldn't expect it from a direct-to-video movie release, but it's true. . . this is one of the best musical scores out there. The curious thing is, I've been hearing it the last few years in the trailers of other movies. It's nice to finally have it at my disposal. Great price, too. A worthy purchase.

Lacking...,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Dragonheart: A New Beginning (2000 Film) (Audio CD)
Some of the music in this soundtrack is decent enough, but to much of it is poor. THe original DragonHEart themes used are definitely my favorite, but little else fits. It seems to me a poor excuse for a soundtrack CD. PErhaps the composer was too afraid to put in any more than necessary. The final song at the end "My Heart Goes with YOu" was decent enough, but not worth bragging over or recommending. At any rate, buy the score to the first movie. It will give you all the finer points of this one and much much more.

The music adds color and life to the movie Mists of Avalon. The opening music on the start of the program will carry your spirit to the unknown and wondrous place who have not seen before. The music orchestrating the whole movie- no elements are overblown and no elements are overproduced! It is a must to collect!

Meh, Its Ok,

Its an ok album, but I like the Original motion picture's soundtrack better. Its not really a fair comparison, as the music here is more, "darker", for lack of a better word and heavier than its predecessor. I listened to this and for some reason, it felt more like a soundtrack to a video game than a movie (Particulary I'm Flying, that one made me think of Skies of Arcadia for some reason). I guess if you're into the heavier orchestrated music its a good purchase, just listen to the sound bytes on Amazon.com before you buy it, and see if you like it.

Nothing Much Here...,
This review is from: Dragonheart: A New Beginning (2000 Film) (Audio CD)
In comparisson to many other film scores, this is score is a total flop. THe only reason I gave it an extra score was because I got the "Dragonheart" Main theme.
As a movie soundtrack fanatic, I practically live and breath movie music. I have it playing just about wherever I go; so I would say I'm a pretty good judge of what's good and what's bad in this score. THe entire CD was basically filled with mindless filler from the movie, and that was especially lame. As I listen to it now, I can easily hear and tell the amaturish style of scoring, very basic and simple; I could even write this without a thought. As I said before, the only merit to this score is the Main theme from the originial movie. However, I did like the song, "Serenade to the Stars" played as an acusitc guitar solo. This I found refreashingly new and enjoyable. As for the song "My Heart Goes with You", this was as poor and pathetic effort to save this flop. My recommendation would be to get the score to the original movie, then borrow this one from the library and pirate "SErenade to the Stars". That's what I did!

Auto-pilot,

I can't figure out if Mark McKenzie is echoing Randy Edelman's score for the first movie or just ripping it off. He creates hardly anything new at all. The main 'Dragonheart' theme created by Edelman crops up a couple of times but the rest of the music on this 36-minute CD is just generic filler.
It sounds very similar to the first in such a way that it appears McKenzie just took some of Edelman's cues and changed a few notes to make it sound like he'd made something new. It doesn't convince. And it doesn't stand on its own. It didn't even go well with the poor movie it was written for. The inclusion of a sappy song on the end and a hint of oriental inspiration cannot save this flop. Stick with the first score. Aside from the very brief inclusion of said theme on this CD, it's worthless. |
