5 Stars isn't enough!,

This review is from: Dragonheart: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
WOW! That's my initial reaction upon listening to this awesome soundtrack. The word awesome means "awe inspiring" and the main theme to Dragonheart does just that: inspire awe. Ever since I first heard the theme played during the "Mulan" promos, I fell in love with it, humming what little bit I heard, and basking in the granduer of it. I assumed it was from the movie "Mulan", but upon listening to some of the tracks I realized it wasn't. I was quite disapointed, and wondered where it came from. Them I heard it during a movie montage thing that showed before a lot of movies at the theatre, and it just teased me some more. I desperately wanted to find it, but had no idea where. Then, while online here at Amazon, and after reading the reviews, and seeing them mention the music was used in "Mulan" promos, I became very excited. Could this possibly be it? I quickly purchased it and eagerly awaited it's arrival. Imagine my joy upon hearing the majestic main theme that was so familier in my mind, playing out on the CD for the first time. It was great! But anyway, about the CD. Just listening to the music makes my spirits soar, and brings up images of perserverance, triumph, and the "silver lining" in everything. If I'm in a foul mood or upset about something, this is where I'll turn. It is so uplifting. The main theme is repeated in various parts throughout the whole CD, in different ways. But that's fine with me, since it's so beautiful. There are really no annoying, "boom boom" action cues on it, which is another plus in my book. Tracks 1, 2, and 15 are the best, but the rest of it is really good as well. Tracks 1 and 2 kind of introduce two themes, and then track 15 brings them together in an awesome piece of music. I have listened to this CD so much since I got it, and am in fact doing so right now. I have about 50 soundtracks, and this one jumped up to at least #2, if not #1 immediately, so that's saying something. (The other one that's right up there is "Rudy" by the way, if you are interested in more beautiful music.) I could go on forever, but I won't, since you get the point, and everybody else has echoed these sentiments anyway. But I definitely say: GET THIS SOUNDTRACK! And prepare to be uplifted. Thanks so much Amazon, and all you other reviewers for leading me to CD this after all these years of longing for it!

Love it!!!,

This soundtrack is... probably... more than probably... my favourite ever. And no matter what else may come along, it will always hold a special place in my heart as it really introduced me, age 12 or whatever, to the world of film music - in the best possible way. I watched the movie, loved it, read the book, watched the movie again, realised just where That Tune that had been going around in my head for years was from and thought "I love this music!!!" and went on a desperate search for the CD.
My only complaint about the soundtrack CD would be that the tracks are out of order. And there is that rumoured fifteen minutes or so of music from the movie that just doesn't make an appearance. That's not highly unusual, but it is annoying if you love the music as much as I do... The "To The Stars" theme is just magic. As everyone knows :) You'll probably find it familiar - it features on the trailers of -several- other films. Apart from the alternately heroic/heartbreaking main theme, there are many other memorable tunes or motifs, ranging, like the film, from cute, lighthearted and amusing to rather dark and serious. It's a very tonal, tuneful soundtrack that most everyone will like/love and respond to. Film score boffs will largely cite it as a successful example of incorporation of some synthy elements into an orchestral score. I think it's probably perfectly capable of standing alone, but if you've seen the movie, it will definitely bring back some very clear memories...

A long lasting favorite!,

When I saw the movie I cried a couple of times, much due to the music that accompanied the finale. Not often have I seen a movie that touched me like Dragonheart did. After seeing the movie I started to search for the songs on the net and I found all of them and I listened to them, often, remembering the scenes that made me cry, in sorrow and in happiness. But, as you probably know, Mp3:s don't have the quality to fully reproduce the true quality of a CD so I decided to get it. It had never been released where I live so I had to order it from America, and it got expensive but still I think that buying it was the best decision I ever made, it's that good. Randy Edelman is the true master among the soundtrack-composers.

A "MUST GET" SOUNDTRACK,

I first heard the music off this CD in many different movies. I surprisingly found out that it was from Dragonheart. I had seen it on TV and in the opening scene I heard the music my ears havd longed to hear for a long time! I had found it. What I believe to be the best soundtrack that is out there. If you are a soundtrack freak, no, if you love any type of music this will be one of the tunes that you will be humming out of your mouth many times. It still never fails to send chills up and down my spine. There are a few songs that are so simular you can't even tell them apart, but that is something that I have found to be on every soundtrack. Songs 3, 4, 8, and 15 are going to be the ones that you will have your CD player programmed to. I would also suggest "The Last of the Mohicans" and "Rob Roy" for your CD collections. Randy Eldelman has created a sound that will stay in your minds and hearts forever.

The absolute best,

The "Finale" is a very in-depth, emotional score that has been played in "Seven Years in Tibet" and "Mulan" as well. You have to be one of us dragon-lovers or fantasy readers or medieval buffs to love the movie as much as I did, but the quality of the score is undeniable. Everything in it stirs up images in your mind, be it something beautiful or frightning or downright funny (listen to "Mexican Standoff"). It's something for everyone's music collection, even though it has absolutely zero words in any of the songs. Maybe someday some poet will think of a few lyrics deserving this msuic....

A soundtrack full of heart and soul,
By

This is one of Randy Edelman's best scores. The music is full of lots of themes that are gorgeous, sweeping, and light-hearted. The themes exchange back and forth throughout the score, putting a big smile on your face each time you hear one of them. The main theme in the film is a full blown orchestral delight featuring lots of heavenly strings, found in "The World of the Heart - Main Title". "To the Stars" utilizes a soaring male choir backing up the orchestra playing the main theme. "Wonders of An Ancient Glory" is a heavenly track with lots of soaring strings. "Einon", "The Last Dragon Slayer", and "Flight to Avalon" are 3 great adventurous cues with plenty of powerful brasses and driving war drums. "Mexican Standoff" and "A Refreshing Swim" are 2 playful tracks that are slightly comedic in nature and generally light-hearted and fun. "Draco" and "Re-Baptism" are 2 very light, floating cues with the main theme played beautifully on each one. The best track of them all is the last one, "Finale", which comprises lots of the themes into a grand finale that really explodes and leaves you wanting more. This is definitely one of Edelman's best and one of my favorite scores. A must own!!

Excellent Score! A great Musical achievment.,

There are some scores that work great with their respective movies, but suffer without the action onscreen, then there are some movie scores that work in spite of the movie onscreen. Dragonheart falls into the second category. It is an excellent score cd. Randy Edelman does a great job of creating a musical picture for the listener. The story does not matter, it could be about anything, rather its the music that simply enduring. I count Dragonheart and Gettysburg as Edelman's 2 greatest scores. Track 2: To the Stars is one of the most beautiful tracks in cinema history. I highly recommend Dragonheart to anyone that likes excellent intrumental music.

A glorious CD for a glorious movie! Not many soundtracks have the depth and feeling of the DragonHeart songs. "To The Stars" is so beautiful, it makes my heart ache. The songs tell the story of DragonHeart . . . the action, the drama, the excitement, the friendship, the love, and, of course, the humor! (Especially in songs like "Mexican Stand-off".) I guanantee you will listen to this music over and over. It sounds as though Draco himself wrote it!---------------P.S. See the movie and read the book!

Ta na na na ta na na na ta na na tanana na na. I must have heard that melody a dozen times during movie trailers at the local theater but no one knew what movie it came from. Then, while I was channel surfing one night I caught the end credits of Dragonheart with that theme playing. I got the cd later the same eveningh. I listen to this soundtrack at least three times every day. It is simply majestical. Ta na na na...

Edelman's Best Score,
By Inspector Gadget "Go Go Gadget Reviews" (On the trail of Doctor Claw) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dragonheart: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I'm not really a fan of Randy Edelman. I hated his score for 'The Mask'. And his attempt at 'Ghostbusters 2' destroyed everything Elmer Bernstein accomplished in the first film. But 'Dragonheart' is the first and only time Edelman has ever impressed me.
For this movie he created a wonderful, wonderful theme that totally stamps over anything ET or Lawrence of Arabia has to offer. The 'Dragonheart' theme is so overpowering and joyous that any serious music collector must own. It's been used in many trailers and once during some kind of montage at the Academy Awards. It deserves much exposure because it's totally great. You'll be playing it over and over. Trust me. Most of the tracks are uneventful and filled with empty music. But 'World of the Heart', 'To the Stars', 'Bowen's Ride' and 'Final' make it worthwhile. I would give this CD 5/5 but the empty tracks drag it down to 4/5. |
