4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent addition of an epic tale.
I love the Dragonlance stories. I own the old paperback CE of the Chronicles and the Legends. The presentation here is quite nice. The leather looks good, and the guilding is done nicely. There is a sewn in ribbon bookmark, and several color plates throughout the book (although none of Elmore's Death of Sturm, a puzzling absence). There is a fold out map in the back (not...

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Special Edition, December 28, 2006
This review is from: Dragonlance Chronicles Special Edition (Hardcover)
This is a review of this particular edition and not a review of the story itself (which I would give 5 stars).

I was expecting a nice collectible copy (in 1 volume) of the original trilogy but instead this is a newly bound edition of the annotated chronicles. The original story is still there but there is the annoying side-bar annotation which make it difficult to concentrate on the main text because it gets pushed towards the center. Therefore if you intend to read this copy you will have to keep the book fully spread out on your lap and strain to read the text as it runs into the center of the book and becomes obscured by the fold.

I wonder why Wizards did not simply produce the original trilogy in a deluxe edition similar to editions we have seen for Lord of the Rings and other classic fantasy trilogies.

The art work is decent but the choice of selection is somewhat baffling. There is no apparent order to the full color pictures so they in no way correspond to the text. In fact, some of the pictures do not even belong to the story at all; several are from the Legends trilogy and even later books. Conspicuous by their abscence are some classic scenes such as the death of Sturm or Kitiara revealed as the dragon highlord.

For a $75 price tag you would think that the full color pages wouldn't be cheap gloss, but they are, and hence the thin text pages tend to stick to them.

The only good thing I can say, besides that the story itself is excellent, is that the binding is tight and well made, and the hand sewn red bookmark is a nice touch.

If you already own a good edition of the chronicles trilogy, and especially if you have the hardcover annotated chronicles in your possession, I would pass on this over priced copy.

There is a sewn in ribbon bookmark, and several color plates throughout the book (although none of Elmore's Death of Sturm, a puzzling absence). There is a fold out map in the back (not big, maybe legal size paper). There is a tribute to Keith Parkinson in the front, which is very fitting. He helped visualize the world of Krynn and it's characters. However, I wonder if this isn't just mostly the Annotated Edition earlier put out in a prettier package. Still, an excellent story, and I hope they bring out a matching Legends CE like this one.

This book is absolutely gorgeous! I didn't realize when I bought it that the book is really the Annotated Chronicles. Beautiful gold leafed pages, fantastic artwork. They did a great job on this one guys, it's worth buying the Chronicles again for this one!

4.0 out of 5 stars Dragonlance Chronicles, January 24, 2007

I absolutely love this story, in fact the book I all ready has is worn out with all the times I have read this story. But I am truley disappointed in the cover. My cover does not feel like leather to me and it surley isn't embossed. For $42.00 If I had know the cover was such a disappointment I would have never bought it. But again, the story is the greatest . Thanks Jerrie Colorado

This special edition contains the 3 dragonlance books. I read as a teen. I love this edition because in addition to having all 3 books it also has the writer's comments on the side of the pages. Great read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Why is it upside down?, December 6, 2009

I bought this book and have yet to read it, as there are about 2 years of books I have planned to read before I get around to it. I have to say that while it is sitting on my shelf waiting to be read, it looks awesome. Very nice looking cover, only thing I don't understand is why are the pages inside the book upside down? Is it supposed to be this way or did I just get a goofed up one? Look forward to people looking at me funny while I read an upside down book, will be pretty funny.

4.0 out of 5 stars My first Dragonlance Book, June 26, 2009
This review is from: Dragonlance Chronicles Special Edition (Hardcover)
My daughter suggested reading the Dragonlance series.
I picked this edition because (my daughter is always right..lol) and, for me, having the first three books in one edition is the way to go.
It is beautiful gold trimmed with satin bookmark. There are also great colored pictures throughout.
Also in the borders of each page is comments made by the authors about situations you are reading about....giving you the choice to expand on the Dragonlance universe.
Love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing edition, January 30, 2009
This review is from: Dragonlance Chronicles Special Edition (Hardcover)
A friend recently gave me this copy of the Dragonlance Chronicles, one of my favorite stories. I hadn't realized at first (probably too dazzled at the actual beauty of the book) that there were annotations in the book regarding the author's ideas and reasoning behind that particular part of the tale, as well as some really great illustrations. This was truly wonderful to read, and gave the story a breath of fresh air as I realized the creativity that went into bringing this work to life.

I truly wish more publishers would offer editions like this for some of my favorites, it's very rewarding to have a "behind the scenes" look at the author's work.

4.0 out of 5 stars great item, October 17, 2007
This review is from: Dragonlance Chronicles Special Edition (Hardcover)
THis is a great book, all 3 in one, the only problem I had with it is there is a sticker on the book itself, and it doesn't come off easily, I never will understand why they have to put stickers on the cover of the book itself!
