5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful True Metal, Happy Posers Stay Away!!!, March 8, 2003
This review is from: Dragonlord: Tales Of The Noble Steel (Audio CD)
Domine is a great band, and of course NOT a typical power metal band, as a ... mentioned in his review for Amazon... Just to mention it, Domine exists since 1983, at a time when bands like Hammerfall, and other bands were just babies...
Anyway, Domine's music has nothing in common with bands like Hammerfall, or any other German-type power metal. Domine do not have happy melodies, but serious melodies out of the heart, they are inspired by bands like Warlord, Manowar, Queen, and many others, you can check my webpage for Domine if you'd like... Ok, it took until song 8 ("Uriel the Flame of God") before I looked up and disliked a song. It was the ONLY song on the album that I didn't grin and say to myself, "Damn, this is GOOD." Now, admittedly, Domine isn't going to set any world records for originality, but if I (or you) was concerned about that, I wouldn't have bought a fantasy-themed epic power metal album in the first place, right? Right, I thought so.

That said, the power metal that is here is simply superb. "Anthem" is a suitable opener, bringing the tempo up and setting the tone for the dive into the speedy goodness that is "Thunderstorm," one of the finest songs on the album. Things don't slow down much, as Domine kicks their brand of anthem rock into high gear with awesome metal tune after awesome metal tune (i.e. "Last of the Dragonlords," "Defenders," and "Dragonlord").

But the true quality of the album is found at the epic finale, "The Battle for the Great Silver Sword." It's broken into 7 parts, each with a fairly distinct and noticeable sound to it. I dare you to check out the HEAVY riffing as Part IV ("War") becomes Part V ("Sword Fight") and not just bust out into wild thrashing and headbanging! It's THAT good.

This is not an original album. But Domine is one of a handful of simply awesome modern power metal bands doing the originators like Manowar, Iron Maiden and Armored Saint proud. Get all of this!

5.0 out of 5 stars a true classic from a sadly underappreciated band, December 20, 2006
By
This review is from: Dragonlord: Tales Of The Noble Steel (Audio CD)
Domine, an Italian heavy/symphonic power metal band with better than average fantasy lyrics, a different but very good and very dramatic singer, and some of the best darn vocal melodies and meaty guitar riffs you've never heard, sadly never got the attention they deserved.

This is your lucky day. Not only have you discovered one of the true hidden musical gems this world has to offer, you have found their best album. As good as their other albums are (and they are all far, far above the genre standard), their very best album, and a classic by any reasonable standard -- Dragonlord -- happens to be the one that is most widely available at a reasonable price.

There's not a skippable track on this one. Epic to the bone. If you can get a copy, jump all over it and play it until the plastic wears out.
