5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful True Metal, Happy Posers Stay Away!!!
Domine is a great band, and of course NOT a typical power metal band, as a ... mentioned in his review for Amazon... Just to mention it, Domine exists since 1983, at a time when bands like Hammerfall, and other bands were just babies...
Anyway, Domine's music has nothing in common with bands like Hammerfall, or any other German-type power metal. Domine do not have...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good music, Bad singer!
While I agree with most of the other reviews on the musical side of this CD, the singer is horrible. He's the reason this band is overlooked. The song structures are solid with some fantastic leads and the overall sound is heavy enough. The music and lyrics have an epic feel to them which isn't bad but the vocals.... The vocals are too high pitched and don't fit with the...

Domine do not have happy melodies, but serious melodies out of the heart, they are inspired by bands like Warlord, Manowar, Queen, and many others, you can check my webpage for Domine if you'd like... Ok, it took until song 8 ("Uriel the Flame of God") before I looked up and disliked a song. It was the ONLY song on the album that I didn't grin and say to myself, "Damn, this is GOOD." Now, admittedly, Domine isn't going to set any world records for originality, but if I (or you) was concerned about that, I wouldn't have bought a fantasy-themed epic power metal album in the first place, right? Right, I thought so.

That said, the power metal that is here is simply superb. "Anthem" is a suitable opener, bringing the tempo up and setting the tone for the dive into the speedy goodness that is "Thunderstorm," one of the finest songs on the album. Things don't slow down much, as Domine kicks their brand of anthem rock into high gear with awesome metal tune after awesome metal tune (i.e. "Last of the Dragonlords," "Defenders," and "Dragonlord").

But the true quality of the album is found at the epic finale, "The Battle for the Great Silver Sword." It's broken into 7 parts, each with a fairly distinct and noticeable sound to it. I dare you to check out the HEAVY riffing as Part IV ("War") becomes Part V ("Sword Fight") and not just bust out into wild thrashing and headbanging! It's THAT good.

This is not an original album. But Domine is one of a handful of simply awesome modern power metal bands doing the originators like Manowar, Iron Maiden and Armored Saint proud. Get all of this!

5.0 out of 5 stars a true classic from a sadly underappreciated band, December 20, 2006
By
This review is from: Dragonlord: Tales Of The Noble Steel (Audio CD)
Domine, an Italian heavy/symphonic power metal band with better than average fantasy lyrics, a different but very good and very dramatic singer, and some of the best darn vocal melodies and meaty guitar riffs you've never heard, sadly never got the attention they deserved.

This is your lucky day. Not only have you discovered one of the true hidden musical gems this world has to offer, you have found their best album. As good as their other albums are (and they are all far, far above the genre standard), their very best album, and a classic by any reasonable standard -- Dragonlord -- happens to be the one that is most widely available at a reasonable price.

There's not a skippable track on this one. Epic to the bone. If you can get a copy, jump all over it and play it until the plastic wears out.

This review is from: Dragonlord: Tales Of The Noble Steel (Audio CD)
If you are in the US and are new to Domine, then don't be put off this album due to the fact that it's 10 times cheaper than the other Domine offerings. This album was released in the US on Metal Blade records, while the others are only available on import. I think that for a while Metal Blade was trying to get into the power metal market, but it was at a time when Americans were too busy letting bands like KoRn take a dump on their face and in their wallets. I got this album directly from Metal Blade for the whopping price of $0.25 (or something in that ball park - for brand new!), along with Steel Attack and Insomnia.

The first time I played this album, I approached it as something that cost a nickel and two dimes, and to be honest I wasn't all that stoked. I love cheese, don't get me wrong - I like my power metal with as much cheese whiz on top as you can possibly fit on there. But, this was just too generic sounding. However, over time, I started picking out some favorite tracks. Before I knew it, this album had really grown on me and I had learned to appreciate some of the subtleties in Domine's style that distinguish them from other similar acts.

The vocals are extremely operatic, and the falsetto wail at the end of the track, 'Defenders', still blows my mind. The guitar work is very intelligent, and as one of the previous reviewers mentioned, the compositions and melodies are definitely unique (not your standard up-beat riding on rainbows type of power metal riffage), giving the entire album a sense of maturity, atmosphere and cohesion. The album also has some more progressive moments, especially on the multi-faceted finale track, 'The Battle For The Great Silver Sword'.

The bottom line is that 'Dragonlord: Tales of the Noble Steel' strikes a good balance between epic and shred. It may take a few listens for this album to grow on you, but it's definitely worth it for the reward. And, as cheap as this album is, you can't go wrong.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good music, Bad singer!, August 10, 2007

While I agree with most of the other reviews on the musical side of this CD, the singer is horrible. He's the reason this band is overlooked. The song structures are solid with some fantastic leads and the overall sound is heavy enough. The music and lyrics have an epic feel to them which isn't bad but the vocals.... The vocals are too high pitched and don't fit with the music. As I listen to this CD I imagine Bruce Dickinson or Dio on vocals and what an improvement it would be. When the singer isn't involved the music is very enjoyable. Be wise and listen to some downloaded samples before shelling out any money.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great CD!, November 19, 2005
This review is from: Dragonlord: Tales Of The Noble Steel (Audio CD)
When Im playing Warcraft I pop this cd in. It goes right along with the game! It's almost like a soundtrack. The beginning of this album kicks ass. A semi classical piece with some spoken lyrics, "Your time has come. A storm is coming, our storm. And when it arrives it will shake the universe." and BAM into track 2. A high octane fast paced song that just rocks. This is what this kind of metal is about. High octaine music followed by high pitch lyrics about the Renaissance era. Good schtuff here!

I picked this Cd up out of nowere, while rummaging in a shop for alternative music. My friends and I caught the eyes of Domine's Dragonlord and bought it. It turned out to be an awesome albumn with great melodies and a great story line behind the songs. Key tracks include the symphonic intro to the CD.Anthem. Track 2,3,5,7,10 are the best tracks. THE BATTLE FOR THE GREAT SILVER SWORD is of epic proportion, pounding out almost a 14 minute song. METAL RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The second piece of italian based band Domine, following their debut album Champion Eternal,in the same trend of sound as Labryinth and Rhapsody (no need to add comments to that). It's a great heavy, epic, metal melodic album, look for pieces like "The battle for a great Silver Sword" & "Mars, bringer of War"......if you're a lover of this epic metal sound and bands like Manowar, Rhapsody, etc, you'll find this CD it's just a great
