Dragonology Tracking and Taming Dragons Volume 1: A Deluxe Book and Model Set: European Dragon (Ologies)

I originally bought this for my nephews, who have a fascination with dragons and such at the moment. It's definitely a result of the Harry Potter phenomenon, but the similarity ends at its "magical" quality. Its intent is the opening of minds to the hidden worlds of the imagination, and a rekindling of young peoples' interests in areas of mythology and classic literature. Supposedly the work of the last dragonmaster, the book aims to dispel the myths on dragons, recalling Hagrid's comments that they are "very misunderstood creatures". While Dragonology has lots of bells and whistles and moving parts, this is a simple guide to tracking and identifying dragons of various types, and the information within can also be found in either the first Dragonology text, or the Handbook. The Dragon model, used for identifying dragons in the wild, is quite a treat, however, and easily assembled, though I would expect it to be easier for 10+ year olds. The model itself is made from very thick, durable cardboard (almost like wood), and, for the price of less than $10, it's a decent value. While the tracking guide is great for stimulating the imagination of children (of all ages, apparently), it's a slightly more involved text than Dragonology (and on par with the Handbook, from which it was derived), and therefore also likely to appeal to children 10+.

It seems that someone has mistakenly entered the blurb related to the original Dragonology book, which obviously does have the tactile samples, dragon dust, etc. This is a completely new book, with a superb dragon model(mobile)that you can construct. Rumor has it, too, that this is the first in a series of different dragon models that they're going to release. How cool is that!

I saw this book yesterday and had to buy it for my 7 yr old dragonologist. He was very excited to see it when he got home from school. He spent a lot of time reading the book and playing with the model last night. He certainly gives it 2 thumbs up.

I bought this after purchasing the original Dragonology book. The model is simple enough that most children should have no problem assembling it, and the book's puckishly dry wit will bring a chuckle of empathy to any adult who has had to clumsily learn a new skill. Or raised children.

My only regret is that the book ended too soon, which I suppose means it was just the right length. It left me looking forward to Volume II in the Tracking and Taming Dragons series.

Only children younger than nine or fantasy dorks like myself would enjoy a model of a dragon they can actually hang in their bedroom. But I've got a lot more, similarly weird, things in my room -- so it's OK.

This set is amazing. I got it used, so a couple pieces were bent, but nothing broken. Great condition. Also, it was the European Dragon -- my favorite type -- and though I probably want to get the volumes to come, I'm glad the first was my favorite type of dragon.

I've now got three Dragonology items -- the handbook, the original book, and this.

This series is great for anyone who loves fictional factbooks, or just dragon nerds. Also, though I can't vouch for the other Ologies, Egyptology is excellent as well.

We bought this book for our 8 yr. old son and it's the first book that we couldn't pry from his hands. I never thought I'd hear myself say, "Son, would you please stop reading.". The illustration in the book as well as all the elements are beautiful and it's just so full of interesting "things" including a bunch of stickers. The stickers are so beautiful that my son didn't want to use them so they wouldn't get messed up. He wanted to keep them perfectly preserved. Every page is a suprise. He loved this book so much that he begged us to buy Pirateology and we didn't hesitate.

My 9 year old son is absolutely entranced with this series. Especially this one. The model is his favorite part. Hanging in his room. I find him sitting quietly reading and rereading sections of these books. And that never happens!

I bought this gift for my nephew who loves anything with dragons. Imagine his surprise when he saw this book for his birthday! I bought this book and the other Dragonology book. What gorgeous books! They looked like they had real leather covers. The prices on these two books could not be beat.

He was so enchanted with the beautiful pages that had foil on them. The model was like a separate gift for him. He immediately built it and it was simple enough for him to do it alone(age 8). It created a very real world of dragons for him.

If you are looking for a classy book and/or a great gift for your dragon lovers, then look no further for this is a great book at a great value. My big kid (my husband) loved it too!

great!!! she loved the book & the put together dragon!! you can even hang the dragon like a mobil!!!! if your kid loves dragons as much as mine you CAN'T go wrong w/this item!!!

My son loved this he built the model dragon right away and now it is hanging from the ceiling in his room! He loves it.
