4.0 out of 5 stars A review of Dragon's Breath - it's great!, March 8, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Dragon's Breath (Tales of the Frog Princess) (Hardcover)
Dragon's Breath is the spectacular sequel to The Frog Princess written by E.D. Baker. The main characters are Princess Emma, her mother, Grassina (Emma's aunt), Prince Eadric, and Emma's grandmother. There are also many settings, just to name a few; Emma's castle, the swamp, a sea inside a little fish bowl, a town inside a picture, and the dragon Olympics.
In The Frog Princess, the clumsy Princess Emeralda (Emma for short) runs to the swamp so she won't have to meet her spouse- to- be, Prince Jorge. In the swamp she meets Eadric, a prince turned into a frog. She kisses Eadric so he will turn into a prince again, or so he says, but instead of him turning back into a prince Emma turns into a frog! In the end both Emma and Eadric returned back to their normal selves with a little help from their animal friends.
Dragon's Breath picks up after they have been turned back to their normal selves. Emma and Eadric's second adventure starts when her aunt Grassina asks them to look for four things for a spell, "a gossamer hair from mother-of-pearl, the breath of a dragon green, a feather from an aged horse, and the husk of a magic bean". She wants these things because she fell in love with a man her mother did not approve of, who than turned him into an otter. Incidentally, Grassina, her mother, and Emma are all witches. Grassina must have all those things before time runs out, and her boyfriend forgets he's a human. So Eadric and Emma go to some pretty strange places to look for them. To top it all off, Emma's country is having a war with their neighboring country over the fact that Emma won't marry Prince Jorge and therefore not giving him half of her lands.
I think anyone who loves animals will love this book! It has a great adventure and lots of animals to help Emma and Eadric. Also, Emma's spells contain some interesting language. Here's an example: "You don't want us in your belly. We'll taste bad like stinging jelly. Turn around and head straight back. We would make a lousy snack." In some of her other spells there are more similes. I liked this book so much I read it in about two to three days. One thing that I like about the book is that the main character is named Emma just like me! I really hope I have convinced you to read Dragon's Breath but here is one idea, you might want to read The Frog Princess first. Happy Reading!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A sequel to the Frog Princess, July 31, 2004

This review is from: Dragon's Breath (Tales of the Frog Princess) (Hardcover)
The novel is a sequel to the "Frog Princess," and that novel should be read first to understand the characters. Princess Emeralda, her friend Prince Eadric, and her aunt Grassina (the Green Witch) discover the ingredients needed to reverse the spell that turned the man Grassina loved into an otter. The problem is the fact that the spell requires a hair from mother-of-pearl, the husk of a magic bean, a horse feather, and the breath of a green dragon. Most of the novel deals with the adventures of Emeralda and Eadric as they go on a quest seeking the items. Along the way they acquire some dragon friends. And they need to hurry, as the army of an adjoining kingdom is preparing to invade the country.

The events come out a little different than planned. Grassina is not entirely sure she still wants Haywood whom she has not seen in human form for 20 years. Emeralda's grandmother is interferring, as she has never thought Haywood was good enough for Grassina - the reason she turned him into an otter. Things become complicated because some spells have hidden features that are unknown until activated. Also, you do have to be careful what you wish for, or you may get unwanted results.

As usual with fairy tales, the hero or heroine (in this case) prevail in the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not the average fairy tale!, January 2, 2004
By
This review is from: Dragon's Breath (Tales of the Frog Princess) (Hardcover)
One of the best fantasy books I've ever read, Dragons Breath has adventure with dragons, singing swords, ghosts and curses, which sets it apart from your average fairy tale with the fairy godmother, the price always saving the princess and slaying the dragon. It keeps you on your toes and makes you laugh. Once you start reading it, you won't want to stop! If you liked The Frog princess you'll love Dragons Breath!

5.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't put it down!, November 6, 2003

I first saw this book in the store and liked the cover with the cute little dragon on the front. Well I found out that I must have the first book to understand what was going on in this book that had such a cute cover. I must say that after reading them both the second is better and more eventful. I loved the first book but the second book I absolutly fell in love with and could not put it down! I was almost tempted to skip some of my classes to be able to continue reading it and find out what was going to happen to them next. It is as fast paced as the first one but does not seem to take away from the story. It is a great book and I would highly recommend these books for any ages! I saw that the suggested ages was from eight to fourteen but I would dissagree and say that anyone that loves a bit of magic and a cute little old fashioned romace would definitely enjoy these books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bye It Flamen' Fast, April 9, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Dragon's Breath (Tales of the Frog Princess) (Hardcover)
If you want to read "Dragon's Breath" I suggest you read "The Frog Princess" first so you can understand it better. In "Dragon's Breath" Emma and Eadric help Emma's Aunt Grassina, the current 'Green Wtich', turn her true love, Haywood, back into a person from a otter. After overhearing a wizard talking to the soul of her grandmother, who turned Haywood into an otter in the first place, Emma learns the things needed to turn him back. Hearing this she sets off to find the ingreddients with Eadric by her side. They find many weird 'things' along the way including dragons witch makes Emma's magic stronger. The neighboring kingdom chose this miment to attack. With Grassina distracted and Emma's magic out of controll it looks like Emma's father's army is going to lose untill something very strange happenes......

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing! I love this series!, February 4, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Dragon's Breath (Tales of the Frog Princess) (Hardcover)
These books are great! I read this one in one day! (Although that could be due to the fact that I stayed home sick and had plenty of time on my hands!)

In the second book in this series, Princess Emerelda (Emma for short) and Prince Eadric go on some amazing adventures and wind up in some carzy predicaments! This all happens because Princess Emma's Aunt Grassina, the Green Witch, finds her betrothed, Haywood. Except there is only one problem...He's an otter! Why? Grassina's mother, Emma's grandmother, didn't think Haywood was fit to be Grassina's husband so she turned him into an otter.

Luckily Eadric an Emma found the counter-curse, and now they know how to turn him back. Unfortunetly the ingrediants are very difficult to find and very tricky to decode. And even worse her grandmother sent Haywood to some hidden place and within at least four days if Grassina doesn't find him he will forget he was ever human! Well at least they try to fix it anyway. Unless you wouldn't call jumping in a fish bowl, going to a magic market, meeting a retired horse short of hearing that lives in a cave at the top of a mountain, and going to the Dragon Olympics not trying. Emma also takes the time to get a better hold on her magic. And Eadric takes his time to get a better hold on Emma!

They do their job, but does Grassina? As her job as the Green Witch, she is always supposed to save the kingdom when it's in danger, but she thinks finding Haywood is more important. Will she be putting the kingdom in jeopardy? Emma starts to worry, because if her aunt doesn't come soon Greater Greenwald's army, led by her father, will have to fight, or she'll have to marry Prince Jorge! (Which does NOT please Eadric!)

So can they get all the ingredients? Will Grassina find Haywood in time? Well you'll have to read the book to find out, 'casue I'm not telling! But I can guarantee you'll have a blast reading it!

P.S. It's easier to understand if you've read the first book "The Frog Pincess". I would suggest this book for pre-teens or teens.

I absolutly adored this book, and I can't come up with enough good things to say about it. It's great for absolutly any age (I'm 26) and I read the first three books in two days.

Wholeheartedly reccomended for girls, who will find a near perfect heroine and role model in Emma.

I loved this story because there were more adventures and surprises, but the end made me sad until I read the next book, Once upon A Curse, and everything was better. I was hooked, I read one and I had to read them all!!!!!!!!!!
