Editorial Reviews

Review

A poignant, lovely and fun look at the long journey home not only for our children but for all of us who love them.~ Rose Lewis, author of I Love You Like Crazy Cakes --Rose Lewis

The Dragon's Daughters Return is a welcome teaching tool for social studies, current events and sociology classes at any level --S. Thomas, Social Studies educator, Montclair, NJ

From the Publisher

Savor historic treasures and the astonishing new cities of China. Visit a children's social welfare institute and see the reality of adoption in China. These are not the grim orphanages of Charles Dicken's "Oliver Twist", but places where children are warm, cared for and loved. This book is full of amazing cultural facts, useful travel tips, and beautiful, color photos.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gift for All, November 26, 2008
This review is from: The Dragon's Daughters Return (Hardcover)
Cornue's book is a gift for all of the children adopted from China and their families. This book is an excellent teaching tool to prepare children and adults for what they might expect to see on a visit to China. The artwork is beautiful, the photographs true to life, and the narrative is informative, well planned, and educational. Each page offers bite-sized bits of information about Chinese culture, symbolism, language, and history. Woven throughout are the personal stories of several families who have traveled to China as part of a heritage tour. Seeing and reading about these families helps all the children adopted from China feel connected to the larger adoptive community in which they live.
Cornue's book is a positive resource for classrooms as well - offering a refreshing glimpse into modern day China, dispelling many of the negative stereotypes often portrayed in the media. The author is able to appropriately frame the context of history through the lens of an academic scholar while making the concepts easy to understand and discuss with children.
Cornue's gracious contribution helps all `Children of the Dragon' to feel rooted, connected, and more confident about their place of birth. We keep this book on our coffee table to share with guests. It has become a source of pride and conversation for my daughters as we prepare to travel to China in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heart-warming & insightful, August 25, 2008
This review is from: The Dragon's Daughters Return (Hardcover)
Heart-warming account of 21 families who return to China with their adopted daughters. Most daughters were babies when they left China, so this is their first trip back to the land of their births. Full of photographs & charming vignettes. Author is an anthropologist and gives insights not found in many other adoptee chronicles. Good for anyone planning a trip to China -- contains great travel trips. Colorful, beautiful book.
