5.0 out of 5 stars Informative book - sure to grab the attention of little ones
Disclaimer - this book is written from the Creationist standpoint.

This slim book presents 16 "dragons of the deep" with limited historical background and modern comparison - i.e., "...Xiphactinus was longer than your average family SUV." It's a nice coffee table book that is sure to spark interesting conversation with visitors!

The flod? The genesis? Against Atheism? We Atheist should not talk garbage about o ye old poor chatolics but they can about us, sure... Well that is a world ruled by God indeed. (Get it?).
I'll just say one thing, If Moasaurs existed during this flod thingy, they would have survived it, i mean all people and animals (but the ones in the ark) died so that means...

The illustrations are lovely - dreamy watercolors combined with sketches and "real" photography. Everyone in my family enjoys reading this book - or simply browsing over the photos and "fast facts."

Great addition to your science curriculum or family library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dragons of the Deep, September 30, 2008
This review is from: Dragons of the Deep: Ocean Monsters Past and Present (Hardcover)
I thought that this book was very entertaining, informative, educational and an all around excellent book. The 2 best things about the book were the Biblical references that backed up the information and the fact that my 5 year old daughter and 10 year old son really enjoy all the pictures of the animals and all the "cool facts" that are given about them.I have to congradulate the author(s) and the publisher(s) that put this book together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing book!, September 23, 2008
This review is from: Dragons of the Deep: Ocean Monsters Past and Present (Hardcover)
This is a book with nice illustrations and content. It is based on what the Bible says about 'Sea monsters'.

"God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind; and God saw that it was good." - Genesis 1:21

Since the Bible is true, 'Dragons of the Deep' is based on facts. I like it and it is truly one of a kind!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully illustrated creation science, April 11, 2008
This review is from: Dragons of the Deep: Ocean Monsters Past and Present (Hardcover)
This wonderfully illustrated creation science book fascinates my 10-year-old son. If your children (or you) like dinosaurs and sea creatures, you will love this Christian portrayal of the true evidence in support of creation. The paintings can be a little scary for younger children (predators), but highly recommended for those 7 and up. Very informative, with finely detailed, modern illustrations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, & engaged a teen's attention, July 29, 2010

This review is from: Dragons of the Deep: Ocean Monsters Past and Present (Hardcover)
"Dragons of the Deep" is a children's nonfiction book about huge sea creatures (marine reptiles and mammals, turtles, squid, fish and sharks) of both the past and present. Adults will enjoy the book as well. It covered 17 main sea monsters with a 4 page spread for each creature. The author discussed what we know about the creature and, if it's thought to be extinct, what fossil evidence this information was based on (bones, skin impressions, stomach contents, etc.). We're given the creature's name, length, weight, the location it (or it's fossils) have been found, and fun facts about what it ate or what legends might be based on it. There's a painting-style picture of what each creature might have looked like, pictures of live ones, pictures of the fossils, illustrations showing how large they were compared to common objects (like cars), and more.

Woven into this was information on how we can determine things about what the creature was like based on the fossils. Also, when discussing how and where the various fossils of the creatures were found, the author discussed how fossils are formed.

The book was written from a Christian perspective, so the author occasionally said things like "God created this creature..." or refered to Noah's Flood as creating many fossils. Overall, I enjoyed the book and thought it was very well done. I'd recommend it to children and adults who are interested in sea monsters.

I gave this book to a girl who'd just turned 13 years old. She was highly engaged by it, and, as she was reading, she kept looking up to say, "Hey, did you know that such-and-such was this big?" and other things she'd just learned from it. She read the whole book at one sitting, and I suspect she'll be going back to look at it again.

This book is so informative. The illustrations are incredible. I bought this for one of my boys and all of my sons sit together and go over this book endless times. They love learning about the creatures that used to exist in the sea. We liked it so much we just bought another copy for a nephew.

I'll just say one thing, If Moasaurs existed during this flod thingy, they would have survived it, i mean all people and animals (but the ones in the ark) died so that means plenty of easy food. Mosasaurs were amazing and it took a gigantic meteoroid to devastate the earth to kill them not a flod. please.

Great book with great pictures and great stats. It was neat to see an illustration of the creature compared to the average man. Makes you feel kinda small. But, yeah, everyone liked it. Shalom

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't let your kids miss out on these amazing creatures, January 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dragons of the Deep: Ocean Monsters Past and Present (Hardcover)
Dragons of the Deep is a beautifully illustrated and photographed book. My children, 5, 7, and 10, request it again and again. Not that I read it all--it contains some lengthy descriptions of sea creatures, now extinct--but they love looking at the pictures and reading the interesting snippets. Yes, the book is written from the standpoint of Intelligent Design. This does not mean that facts are trumped up. There are photographs of actual fish skeletons, actual teeth, and real facts about documented discoveries. Even if you do not believe in the Intelligent Design theory, you will want your children to see these amazing creatures that once inhabited our oceans.
