Book Description

8 and up4 and up

It is a rare talent, and only she can care for the Inn's herd. She feeds them, gathers their eggs, and tends to their injuries. But Mella dreams about the dragons of legend, even though hardly anyone believes they still exist. Dragons are small farm animals, not huge fire-breathing monsters. Everyone knows that.

Until one day changes everything.

A Knight of the Order of Defenders arrives at the Inn. Signs of the mythical dragons have led him there, he says. Then a simple errand takes Mella through the forest, where she stumbles across a dragon's egg—and faces the true, terrifying dragon guarding it. On the spot, Mella vows to get the egg safely to the fabled Hatching Grounds. She must leave her home for the first time, and she finds an unlikely companion in the Defender's squire, Roger.

For Mella and Roger, this one day is the beginning of an adventure. Where will it take them?

5.0 out of 5 stars read it to your older elementary kds, January 3, 2010
This review is from: Dragon's Egg (Paperback)
This book is action-packed and exciting. With the fantasy world of dragon's and people together, and then the "mission" to save "the egg"--wonderfully a page turner. I find myself, as I'm reading it to my 3rd grader, saying "okay just one more chapter"-- and then when that chapter is done, reading on silently-- my son quickly says "mom!! keep reading!!" Read it together.....

3.0 out of 5 stars Could have used a bit more, May 29, 2011

This was a fun childrens story. Nice developement, tho it could have used more.
More about "Lady",
More about Gwyns history,
More about Damians pendent,
More about Coels betrayal,
which would lead to:
More about why the little wild dragons survived.
Also, while there was plenty of "closure" with Rogers return, we were left on the side of the road with Mellas ultimate return home. How was she welcomed home, not only by her parents, but also by her herd.

I know this was a childrens book but, in my opinion, that's no reason to leave so many questions.
Now, if there were a sequel in the works,.....
