Firefighter and Gatekeeper Brayden St. John guards the Northern portal to Jarithia the same way he fights fires: with honor, bravery and his own set of rules. But when the dragonshifter meets a certain lovely sorceress, he soon learns that rules are meant to be broken. Even his rules.

Sorceress Callie Gautreaux, owner of Ribbons and Roses Flower Shop, walked away from her powerful family and her Magik years ago. Now, as a malevolent wizard invokes a rogue Chaos dragon to terrorize the streets of New Orleans, she must join forces with her sworn enemy - an ultra-sexy dragonshifter - and face her past in order to save the humans. But can she save her heart from the dragon's charm?

Novella - 20,000 words, about 80 pages

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm still smiling! It's a really great book! April 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed reading A Dragon's Seduction very much. The hero, Braydon, is a scrumptious mortal man who works as a firefighter when he's a man and a Gatekeeper when he's a dragon. The heroine, Callie, is a beautiful, kind sorceress who has rejected magic because of her evil father and owns a flower shop. Their budding relationship is hindered by the ancient war between dragonshifers and magicians but they find themselves irresistibly drawn to one another. The villain is Callie's half-brother Gregori who, among other things, plans to kill her.

This book is very well-written with realistic dialogue that is a lot of fun to read. Braydon's and Callie's personalities are three-dimentional and very likable while Gregori is not as well fleshed out but it is enough to make him thoroughly detestable. The imagery was very vivid and, for a short story, it had a well-structured plot with a smooth storyline that flowed nicely from beginning to end. I strongly recommend this story to anyone who likes lighthearted, paranormal romances with some cute twists.

4.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars - Magic and Dragon shifters May 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
During a rash of arson related fires, a dragon shifter fireman man, Brayden St. John, is aided by sorceress Callie Gautreaux during a rescue in a burning building although, since Dragons and Magik users are enemies in Brayden's home world, he suspects Callie of setting the fire. Despite his inner dragon's better judgment, when they again cross paths, Brayden finds himself drawn to Callie even though he should keep his distance, because sorceresses are known seductresses and a forbidden mating between a sorceress and a dragon can leave the shifter stuck in his dragon form forever.

For the most part I liked A Dragon's Seduction. Really the only complaint I had, was that as a short story there just wasn't enough space to transition Callie and Brayden from potential enemies to potential mates without relying on a them 'sensing' that they were soul mates. So even though I could still forgive this in a short story, and in a kindle freebie, I really wished that Tumlin would have developed A Dragon's Seduction as a full length novel - she definitely had enough in her setup to be worthy of a longer book given the conflict between the leads and the back plot peril for Callie.

But as a short story romance, I still enjoyed A Dragon's Seduction - firemen and dragons combined was a big plus - and since this is apparently the first of four books, I would definitely consider giving another a try.

3.0 out of 5 stars Please re-write and turn it into a novel March 3, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Firefighter and Gatekeeper Brayden St. John guards the Northern portal to Jarithia the same way he fights fires: with honor, bravery and his own set of rules. But when the dragonshifter meets a certain lovely sorceress, he soon learns that rules are meant to be broken. Even his rules.

Sorceress Callie Gautreaux, owner of Ribbons and Roses Flower Shop, walked away from her powerful family and her Magik years ago. Now, as a malevolent wizard invokes a rogue Chaos dragon to terrorize the streets of New Orleans, she must join forces with her sworn enemy – an ultra-sexy dragonshifter – and face her past in order to save the humans. But can she save her heart from the dragon's charm?

This is really a charming story and I really wanted to give it more stars but I am one picky reader. Maybe I am too picky. I have to give Tumlin full marks that she kept me turning pages on my Kindle, wondering what was coming next. I also have to mention it because it is so vital to me: I was never once jerked out of the story by poor grammar, syntax or spelling mistakes.

First off, it lost a star because it was too short! I felt cheated when I reached the end of it. I felt certain there had to be more to it than this. There was a lot of stuff that was just plain overlooked and should have been developed. Such as the relationship between Jarithia and Earth. The main thing about any Speculative Fiction is that builds worlds. Science fiction and the fantasy genres share this. Paranormal romance novels which are a sub-group within speculative fiction also need to build a convincing world. Sadly, this aspect was not developed in this book. I was left with too many unanswered questions. Why Earth? Does Jarithia have this relationship with other planets?

3.0 out of 5 stars Fire Fighting Dragon April 23, 2012
By YodaWay
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Big sexy firefight dragon shifter- okay that's worth reading it right there. This very short novella is a decent start to a series of 'Gatekeepers' dragon shifters. We focus on one of the gatekeepers and his struggle to put out the flames on the local fires caused by a nasty evil dragon and his caller. While this is going on our dragon hero is fighting another fire, his lust for a women. His Mate ??You see where this is going ? Nothing new, nothing unexpected, but a good story.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad... April 26, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
While I enjoyed A Dragon's Seduction, this story is a perfect example of a novella that wanted to be a novel. Novellas have such limited page counts, it's difficult to create solid character development without rushing the plot and forcing the characters to move at breakneck speed just to get an arc in.

Too much of this novella was rushed and the reader was forced to accept convenient situations as "it is what it is" to keep the plot moving. While the story was an enjoyable read, the rushed writing doesn't make for a great read.

More About the Author

Tamelia Tumlin sold her first story to Dogwood Tales Magazine many years ago while taking a creative writing course in college. The short story titled "The Traveler" was the feature story for that edition. After graduating college in elementary education, life, a teaching career and a wonderful son consumed most of her time. However, in the past couple of years, the yearning to pen fabulous romantic tales of to-die-for heroes and spirited heroines has taken over. Ms. Tumlin has worked with several online publishers, but she is now writing for Steel Magnolia Press. Juggling motherhood, teaching and writing is a challenge, but one she welcomes to pursue her passion. Her novels range from sweet and sassy to dark and dangerous.
