4.0 out of 5 stars A portable dragon encyclopedia, January 18, 2010
This review is from: Dragons Tarot (English and Spanish Edition) (Cards)
Designed by Manfredi Toraldo, this Dragons Tarot shows Dragons from a variety of culture. Severino Baraldi's artwork is realistic, but somewhat explicit with nudity that seems over used. For example, all Queens are illustrated naked.

The cards are labeled in six languages: English, Spanish, Italian, French, placed at the top, while German and Dutch are arranged at the bottom.

The Major Arcana are numbered with roman numerals, starting at 0 with The Fool, written in yellow at the center top of each card. Red is used as backgound. The artwork in these is interesting, appropiately incorporating the dragon iconofy to the Tarot tradition. For example, The Fool portraits a rider on horse in a precarious situation at the edge of a cliff with a dragon flying above.

The Minor Arcanas are also numbered at the center top. The artwork on are same style as for the Major Arcana, but specific types of "dragons" are illustrated for each suit. Winged Serpent from America is used for pentacles, Winged Dragon from Europe for swords, Oriental Dragon from Asia for chalices, and Dinosaur from Africa for wands. The imagery also includes the suit's icon.

On the Court Cards, King, Queen, Knight and Infanta are used, Infanta replacing he Page on the Rider's Tradition. Not surprisingly, the corresponding "dragon" type for each suit is illustrated and is the ride for the Knight.

This is an interesting deck, but just somewhat uninspired since once you have seen a few of the cards on a suit you get a sense that you have seen them all. I recommend this deck for collectors looking for a dragon themed tarot. This deck comes with a fitting box and a Little White Book.
