Book Description

October 27, 2009
One of today's most exciting voices lets loose in a novel starring three bold and beautiful women who are about to discover that life in the fast lane isn't all it's cracked up to be. . .

Ever since she started working for a top executive in the music industry, the once-shy Naomi has gone from drab to fab. And now that she's had a taste of the good life, she'll stop at nothing to get more--even if it means watching her career unravel and losing the ones she loves.

Assistant road manager Sereeta is known for scoring New York's NBA players whatever type of tryst they desire--with whatever woman they want. She's not afraid to break the rules until her boss crosses the line with her--and she realizes that one wrong move could destroy everything.

As music director of New York's top radio station, Madison has the power to make or break careers. But a dangerous affair with one of hip hop's most wanted men finds her risking her personal and professional life--all in the name of good old-fashioned lust.

From VIP passes to high-stakes relationships, these ladies longed for glitz and glamour--but can they afford the cost that comes with it?

3.0 out of 5 stars My Soul Is Restored, November 1, 2009
By
The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (RAWSISTAZ.com and BlackBookReviews.net) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Drama 99 Fm (Paperback)
Madison is a high-powered radio executive in New York City. Her fast-paced job puts her in contact with the egotistical, rich and famous artist of the time. Naomi is a naïve transplant from Texas, working as an administrative assistant at a record label and Sereeta is a player's assistant for an NBA player. DRAMA 99FM by Janine A. Morris takes the reader through the trials and tribulations of each woman in a separate manner, until one day their worlds collide for the greater good.

Madison enters into an affair with a hip-hop artist and cannot seem to find her way out of it. Meanwhile, at home, her boyfriend is distant and brooding often leaving Madison to traverse the music scene alone or with her girlfriends and other music industry executives.

Naomi needs a gimmick to be noticed so she can learn the ropes within the music industry with the hopes of being singled out for her work ethic and her new look. What she finds are one-night stands and rampant gossip about her conduct; putting her future employment in jeopardy and her distant relationship at a crossroad.

Sereeta is a hard worker who often walks into situations knowing every devious and immoral detail about her boss' teammates, which is too much information. When she falls in lust with him and is the subject of a near brutal attack, she questions her sanity and ponders her options. However, in the back of her mind is the constant reminder of the monetary need for her job.
Through their jobs, the three cross paths and devise a plan to bring justice and normalcy into their lives and maybe, just maybe, come out on top with their dignity and reputation in tack.
The dialogue is fresh and realistic, but not much is provided in terms of character development. More detail is needed on their history and how they came to be. The visual account of the music industry and professional sports within DRAMA 99FM is a well-written. The author provides a lot of forethought into this world and allows the reader a glimpse into their lives. While reading, the need to provide advice is ever-present.

DRAMA 99FM is a fast-paced look at money, power, the lacked there of and what each woman is willing to forgo in order to save their soul, earn respect and keep their dignity intact.

3.0 out of 5 stars `It's a man's, man's world...', January 7, 2010
This review is from: Drama 99 Fm (Paperback)
Madison Cassell is the program director of Drama 99 FM, one of the hottest radio stations in New York City. She finds herself in a place she never thought she'd be...burned out by the politics of the music industry and the lackadaisical attitude of her fiancé and her colleagues. Madison impulsively lands in a politically incorrect position by way of the up-and-coming rapper Johnny Polytics. Sereeta McFarlane lands the `perfect' job as assistant to NBA player Corey Cox. She has a great salary and perks included in her benefit plan, but the lack of respect exhibited toward women by these multi-millionaire celebrities troubles her. Naomi Mitchell enters the scene as a `Plain Jane' that has swan tendencies after she blossoms. While going through this transformation, she betrays her childhood sweetheart in search of the glitz and glamour that she encounters with the new city, new job, and her new lifestyle.

Janine Morris introduces us to three divas in Drama 99 FM that are career oriented while still seeking mates for love and marriage. The storyline's flow faltered a bit at the onset while the character development was being established. The characters were mediocre, and the plot was questionable for well over half of the book before it finally began to shine through. Subplots were introduced, but they weren't really completed or elaborated to serve any true purposes. Drama 99 FM had a bit of drama, but it certainly didn't live up to its title. The conclusion of the storyline was a bit rushed, even though it was the best part of the entire novel. You may be on top of the world with the confidence of a giant, but the old saying still stands true...what goes up, must come down. We encounter issues of rape, domestic abuse, threats of violence, psychotic behavior, lies, cruelty, and indifference as it takes its toll on one's self esteem. In the end, Drama 99 FM exhibited that no one is exempt from discrimination, abuse, or bad situations.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre plot, un-finished story lines, November 22, 2011
This review is from: Drama 99 Fm (Paperback)
This book had so much potential but it failed in many ways. First of all, the cover isn't even close to representing the women described in the book. The second chapter starts a story line that isn't brought up again - what happens to Reyna and Michael? At the end of the book when the women are dishing on how they were dogged by men in the entertainment industry, a new character named Kayla is all of a sudden introduced - a character who wasnt brought up not even once in the novel and we dont even get to hear her story! It made me wonder if Kayla was originally supposed to be in the book but her story line was cut out at the last minute.
The Corey character was poorly developed and the ending was a little too picture-perfect wrapped up. The only good part of the book was when the women stood up for their rights and refused to be treated as victims by men - it was encouraging when they shared their stories. Overall, the book was sub-par.
