Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Although somewhat wordy in his presentation, Kelsey captures some beautiful images in his drama of Christ's birth. The story is told first in a narrative style using each of the four Gospels and several legends. Later, Kelsey explores the personalities that inhabit the story and invites his readers to share in their joys, sorrows, and uncertainties. In this section, Kelsey is at his best, and the reader comes away with new insights into this most beloved of Christian feasts. Of particular note is Kelsey's wide use of contemporary Christmas images, including T. S. Eliot's poem on the Magi and a hymn by Howard Chandler Robbins. These and other references are annotated in the notes that follow the text. Recommended for seasonal collections. Mary Deeley
