3.0 out of 5 stars Like the book until the ending
I have been following this series for some time now and i have really enjoyed it. however while reading this book i felt that the author took the easy way out. The book could have easily been 50+ pages longer in order to give a better solution to all of Jayd's problems. i dont want to give it away but it seems like the author was just trying to hurry up and end the book...

4.0 out of 5 stars Jayd Power, June 10, 2009
This review is from: Drama High: Keep It Movin' (Paperback)
Jayd Jackson is a young lady with special powers. She has the ability to predict future happenings and see into the past. She received these powers, most recently from her grandmother, who she calls Mama and her mother, known to her as Mom. Mom is gifted as well, though her gifts are limited to reading Jayd's mind. Drama High: Keep it Movin' by L. Divine is a very different, entertaining young-adult book. The young people have the same angst and issues as all young kids growing up in the hood. However, the fact, that Jayd has special powers gave this book a special flavor.

Keep it Movin' is a delightful journey into the life and mind of a young woman who accepts her special gifts, while navigating her teen years. Jayd is consumed with female friendships and conflicts, while at the same time dealing with two young men vying for her attention, Rah and Jeremy. Rah, her boyfriend, is a street guy with a baby and baby-mama drama. Jeremy is a rich, white, former boyfriend who will do anything to be part of her life. But Jayd's main focus is keeping her head above water, embracing her powers and working on developing her own hair braiding technique. The combination of these scenarios make for a fun, easy read.

Though I was a bit taken aback by the language, it gave a certain authenticity to the story and I recommend the novel to teens, fourteen and older.

3.0 out of 5 stars Like the book until the ending, July 14, 2010

I have been following this series for some time now and i have really enjoyed it. however while reading this book i felt that the author took the easy way out. The book could have easily been 50+ pages longer in order to give a better solution to all of Jayd's problems. i dont want to give it away but it seems like the author was just trying to hurry up and end the book instead of developing it into the next book. the end of the book confused me because the extent of the solution isnt really clear but other than that i did like the book and have moved on to the next one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Will They Ever Learn?, September 13, 2009

This review is from: Drama High: Keep It Movin' (Paperback)
All of us are born with a special gift; we either embrace that gift or wish we did not have it. Jayd Jackson is no different. Her abilities to see into the past and into the future was passed down through three generations; from grandmother, to mother, to Jayd. Jayd is the typical busy teenager taking all A P classes, a busy social life, and keeping her psychic powers under control.

Her busy life also has her flip-flopping between two boyfriends, but no matter the pressure from Jeremy and Rah, Jayd maintains these relationships without sex. There are a few aspects of the story not clear to me, but I feel this is due to the fact this is book number eight, and my first read of the series.

KEEP IT MOVIN' was a great read about teenage life and one which I enjoyed. It was true to life with the violence and the carrying of a gun in the glove compartment of the car. The downside was the extreme use of profanity. I recommend KEEP IT MOVIN' to teens and young adults, with the suggestion they begin reading with book number one in the series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Drama High is filled with drama!, June 20, 2009
This review is from: Drama High: Keep It Movin' (Paperback)
This is the first Drama High novel that I've read, though it isn't the first in the series. I would suggest reading from the beginning because Jayd communicates with her mom telepathically; if you're not familiar with the series, it can get slightly confusing.

Jayd is a very independent young lady, trying to stay focused with her school work, social life, and her psychic abilities. Her Dad has given her a whack piece of car as a present, and there is drama between Jeremy and Rah, the two men in her life that she's juggling; plus a whole host of friends and associates that give the series its name. She is also working in a salon braiding hair and making hair products with her grandmother whom she calls Mama.

There is profanity all throughout this book as well as some violence.

One of the positive aspects about this story is that Jayd shows that she can have relationships with young men without having sex. I like this fresh take on things, but then the author compromises it with the the situation with Rah, Jayd's male friend who is already a teen parent. I find it very unrealistic because Jayd goes to his house and spends the night. Even Jayd's mom thought they were having sex, the way they carry on. Since the book is realistic about the violence that goes on in a young persons life, (Rah has a gun that he keeps in his glove compartment), then it needs to get real about everything else.

Aside from that, I think teen girls would find this story something that they can relate to and will want to follow Jayd on the rest of her journeys.
