5.0 out of 5 stars One wand to rule them all.
The impossibility of having a "retail" watering wand last more than a growing season is what led me to the Dramm brand. I'd bought the cheap ones, bought the fancy ones, bought the ones that said "brass construction" (with hidden plastic insides- which quickly failed). None of them lasted long. For some reason, it infuriates me. I feel like I'm being forced to hand money...

3.0 out of 5 stars I SHOULD HAVE READ THE DESCRIPTION BETTER
It is my fault for not reading the description better. The head does not adjust for different types of spray. I would rather have one that did. Other than that it works fine.

I feel like I'm being forced to hand money over repeatedly for something that should be a one-time purchase.

So I pulled up Google, did some obsessive watering wand research, and found this.

First, Dramm is perhaps the most common US brand for nurseries and professionals. I snuck a peek at my local nursery-- yep, she's using Dramms.

Second, these Colormark wands are the top of the line, probably because of the (HEAVY!) all-brass valve at its base. (You can buy the valve itself, alone, for about $15-20). People use them for years and years. Not likely to fail. I found notes online that said that Dramm's plastic valve was prone to breaking after a year or two, like everyone else's, so this model was the one for me. I like the trigger handgrip types a bit better, but I'm willing to give up a little bit of ergonomics for reliability.

Third, should something on this wand fail or get bent or ruined, you can replace just that part; the heads, wands and valves are all sold separately.

Fourth, it's made to water plants with a gentle aerated flow. There's not 17 other silly settings (Water shaped like a Smile! Water shaped like a Vertical Line! Pounding Massage for your Plants! Etc) because they're unnecessary for most gardeners.

I'll come back and report if I have any trouble, but I don't expect to do so.

I'm all about buying Quality once rather than buying Cheap repeatedly. This baby costs less than I've spent on two pieces of junk at the big box stores in the past two years.

Thanks, Dramm! May you live up to your excellent online reputation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Water Wand is GREAT, July 4, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought two of this not knowing if they would be what I wanted. I didn't need all the different "sprays" that some wands offer. I just wanted an adjustable water flow with a spray that would not damage my plants or dig up the soil. This wand does just that. Simple, easy to use, adjustable, and sturdy. Hopefully, the metal fixtures on it will last much longer than the regular plastic models. GREAT WAND.

5.0 out of 5 stars How did I ever do without it?, September 14, 2009
Recommended by my landscaper when he put in a new planting for me. It puts out a steady, gentle, focused rainspray that's good for practically all types of plants. I have a lot of young trees, and used to dread having to water them with a hose and nozzle. Now it's fun with this light, ultra comfortable 30" wand. Just measure first your rate of flow (how many seconds to release a gallon), turn the valve to on, watch your second hand, and easily move around the plant or tree. I get done in half the time and with less than half the backache. Bravo!

4.0 out of 5 stars AS GOOD AS THEY SAID, July 6, 2010

Now here is an item I can heartily endorse. I'm writing a review because there is a method for using this product that I don't recall seeing in the description. In addition to the fast (I mean really fast) watering you can do with this terrific product, you can also use it as a soaker. I bought this after my watering wand literally broke in two. It was the variety with all of the 5 or 6 settings that none of us uses. I did, however, use the soaker setting to deep water trees and shrubs in this part of my garden. I was happy to discover that the valve used to shut off the water at the junction of wand and hose will also allow you to vary the flow rate from "off" to "full flow". This is really handy, since I don't have to return to the faucet and change the flow rate. A real time saver. This is money well spent, in my view. You won't be sorry if you buy this. You may ask why I wonly give the wand a 4-star rating? Well, there was one other setting on my previous water wand that I sorely miss and that is the 'jet' setting. It was perfect for getting water in the little holes on some of my self-watering pots I hang around my garden. If it had that one setting, it would be a five-star product for me. That said, I wouldn't give this back for anything. It has cut down my watering time by almost half. Worth every dime.

This review is from: Dramm 12500 Colormark Premium Rain Watering Wand 30-Inch Length with 8-Inch Foam Grip, Red (Lawn & Patio)
A reviewer of a similar, but less expensive Dramm water wand noted that the connector/valve was made of some sort of "pot metal" and corroded when connected to a brass hose fitting. Taking his advice I bought the slightly more expensive version with a solid brass connector/valve. Glad I did. It is solid.

The head, or watering rose, applies a large quantity of water without knocking down seedlings. Something that no other sprayer I have owned has been capable. No dead spots in the spray pattern either.

If you buy this model, I think you'll have a lifetime tool - until you loan it to your neighbor.

5.0 out of 5 stars AN IMPORTANT TOOL!, April 4, 2010
Watering plants was such a chore before I bought a watering wand. A wand provides just the right water flow to do the job quickly, yet it helps to prevent damage to plants. I bought this one, because of the brass valve, and I haven't been disappointed. After trial and error, I've learned to only buy quality, brass-valved items for watering.

5.0 out of 5 stars great product, August 5, 2009
This is a great product. It lives up to what it says it will do. Great for watering potted plants as well the vegetable garden. The water flow is gentle enough for new plants but produces enough water so the job can be done quickly. The shape of the wand makes it easier on your back as you don't need to bend over to water.

Got tired of buying a new junk wand from Loews every year. Super quality and it is absolutley perfect for watering the garden, right length and right amount of water dispensed from the rose. Not cheap but will get a pay back in a few years as this will last a lifetime with care
