4.0 out of 5 stars Great Timer -- cheap washer/screen
This timer works well, is simple to use, and provides accurate timing up to 2hrs! The ability to time for 2hrs is the primary reason I purchased this timer. It's nice that it comes in several colors, but of course that's more a marketing gimmick than anything. As with most timers these days, the shut-off is rather abrupt, which can cause your pipes to bang -- a minor...

2.0 out of 5 stars okay for the money
The Dramm water timer isn't the best built unit with it's all plastic housing. You definitely have to install it with Teflon tape, otherwise the product will leak. Even with the Teflon tape the product leaks a little bit. Finally, if you are using the product with a Sprayer nozzle and you have it turned off, the pressure from the water backing up causes water to flow out...

This timer works well, is simple to use, and provides accurate timing up to 2hrs! The ability to time for 2hrs is the primary reason I purchased this timer. It's nice that it comes in several colors, but of course that's more a marketing gimmick than anything. As with most timers these days, the shut-off is rather abrupt, which can cause your pipes to bang -- a minor annoyance for me. I especially like the fact that it's all-mechanical so there is no need to worry about batteries corroding over time or wearing out mid-cycle.

Previous reviews mention leaking. The issue here is that the combination plastic washer/screen that you can see sticking out the top of the faucet connection-end on the photo is lousy. The material is way too hard to allow you to make a water tight connection. I replaced this inferior part with a rubber washer/metal screen from ACE Hardware and it worked like a charm.

If Dramm would use a decent screen/washer I'd give this device 5 stars.

Even with the Teflon tape the product leaks a little bit. Finally, if you are using the product with a Sprayer nozzle and you have it turned off, the pressure from the water backing up causes water to flow out of the unit. The timer does, however, effectively shut off water in the allotted time. It's an okay product, not great.

1.0 out of 5 stars A waste of money!, February 18, 2010
I hooked this thing up and set it to a 15 minute timer. Needless to say I bought this because I forget to shut off my water in time. About an hour later my back yard was flooded and the timer still sat at 15 minutes, it never counted down! I heard it ticking like the regular egg type timers do, but aside from that this piece of junk didn't do anything! I would have sent it back but it wasn't worth what it would cost to return.

Our city has been on water rationing this summer with no lawn watering allowed except from 10:00pm to 4:00am. Our lawn watering system is clock controlled, so it was no problem. However, prior to buying these timers, I was spending a lot of time at night moving the hoses on newly planted areas and flower beds. I would rather have been sleeping. The ColorStorm Premium Water Timers solved this problem and have worked faultlessly. I read the experience reported by others concerning various brands of water timers, and selected this brand. Most others were faulted for leaking badly. After changing out the hard plastic washers provided and installing regular hose washers, the ColorStorm's connections were water tight and have remained so. I use two timers and they do a great job.

2.0 out of 5 stars Low Pressure, February 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The water timer cuts water pressure significantly, by about 1/3. Bought to time the water flow to fill pool but noticed immediately that the flow rate decreased. Perhaps okay for a drip sprinkler, but not suitable if you want full pressure. I bought another unit a month ago from Home Depot that works fine and does not reduce water flow; will buy another one tomorrow to replace this poorly designed timer.

5.0 out of 5 stars i like it, May 29, 2009

I use it as a flow control device and think itd great. I did have to pulle out the washer screen thing and use a plain flat rubber washer. No teflon tape needed but then I don't ue it in a way that causes back prresure.

This item is performing just fine so far however, the dial on the top of the timer is simply a poorly-glued on sticker that has essentially peeled off after about two weeks' of use.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could be better., September 3, 2010

This timer seems to function OK except for one thing. It constricts the flow of water significantly. If you need full flow to operate a large sprinkler this will not work.

1.0 out of 5 stars Total junk. Worked one time. Next time flooded my yard., August 26, 2010

This review is from: Dramm 15046 ColorStorm Premium Water Timer, Berry (Lawn & Patio)
This plastic hose timer seemed like a good simple product the first time I used it. It sounded like a wind up kitchen timer as it counted down. The first time I tried it, it shut off my water in about the amount of time I set it for. The second time around was a different story. The timer simply did not shut off the water even though it counted down. I had a flooded area in my backyard for a few hours which was no big deal. I tried this timer for a third time tonight - with a close eye on it. Again, it counted down - but the water stayed on. I am now returning it. One other thing, the sticker on the front that has the time markings on it is already peeling off. If the timer had actually worked, the sticker would have fallen off in a very short time and I would have been left guessing at the amount of time I was setting it for. Overall, not good. It's too bad because I loved the simplicity of the design.
