3.0 out of 5 stars Hard to spot in the crowd
Tired of checking this website for Southern rap albums because all you see are "The south get it crunk! Pick up this ish right now!"-style reviews? Well, here's a new one for you.

I'm not saying that the YoungBloodZ second album, Drankin' Patnaz, is bad, but it really doesn't distance itself from the pack. For instance, rapper Sean Paul (NOT to be confused with Dutty...

4.0 out of 5 stars Youngbloodz Still Shakin Em' Off!!!, September 17, 2003
By
This review is from: Drankin Patnaz (Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
After almost 4 long years with their first album "Against The Grain", J-Bo and Sean Paul are back with their anticipated album "Drankin Patnaz". Although not as good as the first one, youngbloodz still prove that they haven't fallen off. With the club-bangin single "Damn" with producer Lil' Jon and the laid back pimpish song Cadillac Pimpin for all the pimps and playas bending corners in their caddyz or whatever tight whips u have. Overall, the album is off the chain with about 2 songs that aren't that great. Lean Low, without a doubt, will be a club song for mainly the ladies to get freaky with and maybe get loose for a minute (haha). Mind On My Money is my favorite track on there, next to Mud Pit. J-Bo is the tightest one, but Sean Paul ain't no punk either. Yo, go ang get this cd. You'll be bobbin yo head from start to finish!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Southern Crunk, July 5, 2004
This review is from: Drankin Patnaz (Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
Ultra sweet album from my fellow ATLiens. "Damn" is a great song, "Lean Low", "Cadillac Pimpin" and "Hustle" all stick out as other great songs. But by far my favorite song on the album is "My Automobile." I highly recommend this cd to any southern crunk fans, any fans of lil' jon or the ying yang twins will love this album.

This album is hot and fo real. The beats are sick and the lyrics are also good. Whatup Gansta is the best song on the album. Some other good songs are Mud Pit, Damn! and Mind on the Money. this album is serious and u gotta cop it.

4.0 out of 5 stars J-Bo....Sean Paul...Get Em Crunk, September 7, 2003
This review is from: Drankin Patnaz (Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
Youngbloodz deliver on their sophomore album. After giving us classics such as SHAKEM OFF, U-WAY, and 85 they come back as fierce as ever. Hot off the nationwide success of "Damn" with it's super tight beat by super producer Lil John, and the straight ridin first single "Cadillac Pimpin", Youngbloodz took the south by storm again. After nearly a four year hiatus, Youngbloodz are determined with this album to show the nation that the New South is a force to be reckoned with. Sean Paul & J-Bo are both tight lyrically. Sean Paul has the best voice but J-Bo straight rips the album.

Other than the two singles, the rest of the album is a completely different approach than their previous album "Against Da Grain", which is a dirty south classic. At first some may be disappointed at the lack of `crunk' songs. But upon further listening one realizes this album was made strictly for ridin. The beginning of the album starts out crunk with the aforementioned "Damn", as well as "Whatchu Lookin At", and "Sean Paul...Get Em Crunk". But mellows out after that with `Cadillac Pimpin', Mud Pit, My Automobile, Lane To Lane, and Mind On Money - a Jazze Phizzle Producshizzle. The title track is one of the best Youngbloodz songs ever. So tight. Lean Low is destined to be a strip club anthem.

The album does have a few slips though such as the pointless skits, and the collaboration with Killer Mike called Hustle is surprisingly horrible. Also about 2 or 3 of these songs were recorded last year while Youngbloodz were looking for a deal...but you wouldn't really notice unless you were in the A-Town with the bootleg copy. But overall a very good follow up to their debut album (which probably won't ever be surpassed). Not quite classic but one of the best albums released this year. 4.5 stars.

For instance, rapper Sean Paul (NOT to be confused with Dutty Rock Sean Paul) doesn't sound much different than any other dirty South rapper. His rap style is still decent enough, but J-Bo's rapping is better.

Now on to the album. Instant standouts are "Lean Low" with Backbone and, of course, "Damn!" (people can stop pretending they don't like this song). I'm sure the duo are as surprised as anyone else that that song climbed to #4 on the POP charts. Anyway, the only other song besides those two singles that really stands out is "Mud Pit".

Most of the rest of the album is just okay. Actually, there are a few songs that I could do without, like "Hustle" (featuring Killer Mike) and "Lane to Lane", an ode to drunk driving. There are also a couple of obligatory songs about cars, the tolerable "Cadillac Pimpin'" and the skippable "My Automobile". And it seems like Sean and J are trying to hark on past glory a lot, too (they bring up "U-Way" in a lot of the songs). If you're a fan of anything southern, then you'll be pleased with this album. Everyone else should borrow this album first.
