I recently spent 4 hours trying to unclog one of my toilets. To no avail, I used standard issue Drano, a plunger, and a small diameter snake. Nothing worked. So I reviewed several YouTube videos and decided to pick up a ClosetSnake, specifically for toilets, from Home Depot. However, while at the store, I looked at drain cleaners, and if you've ever done this, you know how daunting a task it can be given the endless selections offered. I usually don't prefer "gels" but for some unknown reason bought 2 of the Drano Max Gels. I emptied an entire bottle into the toilet and let it sit for 30 minutes, as directed for tough clogs. 15 minutes and nothing, but after 25 or so minutes, the water level started to recede, albeit ever-so-slowly. I eventually worked up enough courage to flush the toilet and to my shock, it flushed. Happily, I must have flushed 10 times, only because I could. For good measure, I also emptied the second bottle. The next morning I returned the ClosetSnake and purchased two more bottles of the Drano Max Gel.

My bathroom sink would drain after about 5 seconds; after using this Johnson S Drano Max Gel, the sink would clear in about 2 seconds: significant improvement. Expect a 1 or 2 - time use from a single container. Half of the container is required for a slow-moving drain; the entire bottle is required for tough clogs, just as is says on the bottle.

I do find this Commercial Line exceeds the regular line. Works through standing water perfectly. Costly yes at half bottle per use but with the others I have to dose over and over so might not be losing all that much. Half Hour I pour down a boiling water chaser and water flows freely from then on.

Still semi-clogged even after using the whole bottle exactly as instructed. I will say it's running a little better but I'll use something else next time.

When I read a product with "commercial" or "contractor" I think its more powerful then the normal homeowners equivalent of the same brand. This product was worse then the normal homeowners kind I had to buy from Target after this didn't clear my drain. I saw slight improvement and thats why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1. Don't pay extra for this product.

Like just about every family in the world, from time-to-time we experience clogged or slow drains... mostly in our tubs and showers, but sometimes in our sinks. We have tried about every product out there and just keep coming back to Drano. It works.

On average we use about one full bottle of this stuff each month, pouring about 1/3rd of a bottle down the drain of our three tubs & showers as preventative maintenance. What seems to work best for us is to run very hot water down the pipes first, followed by 1/3rd of a bottle of Drano that we allow to do its thing for an hour or two. Then we flush with hot water again, and now we have very few real clog issues.

Once a year or so we will get a real clog (usually when I get behind in the drain maintenance...) We try to use this same process noted above but, as noted on the bottle, we typically have to use an entire bottle in two applications to get the job done. Sometimes there is standing water to deal with, but this stuff is heavier than water and will find its way down the drain to the clogging issue.

It works -- and I try not to forget the monthly maintenance 'cause then we never have the real clogging issues at all. If you need that type of help, Drano Max Gel can do the job if you take the time to use it properly.

Recommended.

reopened my drain when environmentally friendly stuff failed. I'd leave it in the drain longer than recommended for tough clogs.

Worked really well for me. I thought we were gonna have to snake the bathroom sink. The custodian showed up with a bottle of this and I said "we already used drano the other day", he said "not this one" Poured half the bottle down into a totally clogged drain, waited 15 minutes, came back and and it had went down. Poured some boiling water down the drain and poured the remaining half of the bottle in the drain. Waiting another 15 minutes, flushed the drain again and it has been free flowing ever since.
